I am team Apple. My wife is still on Windows, which I then grudgingly need to support, being the in house IT guy.
Everything about Windows is just harder than it needs to be. She’s an average, non-technical user. Most of her Windows issues end up being me saying “OK, let me drive”.
What distros or OS's should I test drive on an Intel i3 desktop that I was gifted this weekend? #linux #NotWindows #hobby
The Mastodon timeline gods have seen fit to show two of your posts in a row to me. So I'll reply to this one as well. :P
It really all depends on what your looking for. If you want great customization and #NotWindows, Kubuntu is a great option. A lot of things are pre-configured well out of the box. The system should be reasonably functional.
IMO, though, Ubuntu-based distros are designed for out-of-the-box ease. And sometimes that ease comes at the cost of flexibility.

Sometimes I wish the Essential Eight for Linux was actually called the Essential (some other number), and that it was written purely to provide great Linux guidance, with Linux security at its honest core.

Kept my windows partition "for safety", if I'd need it...
It's like my birthday, I now have 70 Gb more space!
Temporarily set a supervisor password in the BIOS. Set it to abc123 (easy to remember), don't want to brick the laptop by forgetting. Set Secure Boot to Disabled. Set supervisor password back to a blank password.
I will have to look up how to disable secure boot. I was afraid of this. There is no option in the bios to disable it.
