Here is the art-deco Beresford building/hotel, on Sauchiehall Street, where I misspent much of my youth and not-so-youth, queuing for the garage next door too many times. Shout-out to the 3-in-1 for providing much chips and cheese, and chicken pakora at 3am over the years.

We tried a photo project this trip back to Glasgow, to use old photos in their current areas.
Here is Charing Cross, looking east onto Sauchiehall Street, where I misspent much of my youth and not-so-youth. The clock tower remains but the cultural vandalism in the name of the motorway was a crime.

I love the inscription around this old door bell on a rather grand townhouse in the West End of Glasgow. Apparently, this was once a common feature of door bells, and was even parodied by A.A. Milne in Winnie the Pooh. However, this is the only surviving example I've ever come across in Glasgow.

A stone tramway set into a cobbled lane leading up to a bricked-up cart entrance of a former industrial building in the Finnieston area of Glasgow. To be found on Lancefield Street, this area was once home to a wide range of industrial businesses, including the Finnieston Steamship Works, the Lancefield Brass Foundry, Lancefield Galvenising Works, and the wonderfully named Aerated Water Manufactory.

Love this old gas lamp at the entrance to Royal Exchange Court in central Glasgow.

Someone clearly got fed up with kids ringing their doorbell and then running away! This is on a rather grand townhouse in the West End of Glasgow.

Lagers ghost sign on West End Park Street in the Woodlands area of Glasgow.
A. Waston and Co access cover from University Gardens in the West End of Glasgow. I love coming across these old bits of street furniture as they are a reminder of long-gone businesses. In this case, it's a firm established by Archibald Watson in 1833 which went on to become one of the best known plumbing and gas-fitting firms of its age and was based at 86 George Street.

If you look carefully at the iron guard on the bridge pier on the left of this picture, you can see where the ropes used to pull the barges have cut into it.
Thanks to Centre-Ground on Twitter for bringing this interesting remnant from the past to my attention.

A fragment of the old Monkland Canal passing under Castle Street in Glasgow.
Designed by James Watt, the Monkland Canal was completed in 1794 and was built to bring coal from the mines around Monklands into Glasgow. Most of it was filled in in the 1970s when the M8 motoway was built on top of it, but small fragments like this remain.
