It boggles my mind that VSCode doesn't have this minimap feature like Nova does. Or if it does, there's no clear way to enable it. Maybe an extension?

Another thing is inline git author/commit info which requires a terrible extension in VSCode but is built-in to Nova.

Screenshot of a code minimap of a CSS file in Nova showing the amazingness of seeing the name of a code block when you mouse over it.

I noticed there was a GitHub CoPilot extension made for and I got super excited, but then I read the description and it said it's not functional yet. 😢

IT'S ALL HAPPENING!

Open-source FPGA toolchain on macOS, in my good-friend-and-text-editor, Nova.

I'm still on the hunt for a better way (on a Mac) to synthesize SystemVerilog directly instead of converting it to Verilog first. If YOU know a way, lmkplskthx!

Nova is a fantastic, extensible tool from @cabel and his pals at @panic

A screenshot of a Makefile, which is a plain-text file full of computer code. The exact contents aren’t important to the meaning of the screenshot — the point is that it enables a Mac to built the files needed to make a small, cheap FPGA development board work. The vendor’s hardware is Linux and Windows only. The screenshot is from an app called Nova, and it’s all purples and blues and other “soothing” colours, and is a very nice place to type.

@panic is there some trick to get sequential Tasks to execute? I’m trying to wire up the Rails Server, then Ruby Server Debug to start once it’s up. Right now it just sits at 1 of 2 tasks completed, and the Ruby debugger needs to run manually to actually connect. Is this situation possible with Nova?

Does anyone have good recommendations for a non-#Electron, non-browser #codeEditor on Windows? I have a #SublimeText license, but I'm curious if there's a nicer solution out there; most are Electron and Monaco. I happily use #PanicNova on my laptop for #programming, but want something for my desktop, too.

JetBrains Fleet looks cool, but it's subscription only. Not to say I won't pay for software — I re-up my Nova, Sketch, and Affinity suite — but strongly prefer pay-to-upgrade over pay-to-use.

Trying out Panic Nova code editor because I have loved other Panic products in the past.

Coming from VS Code, one of the biggest missing features for me is the lack of a NPM Scripts panel. I don’t have the care or time to recreate every script in a package.json file as a Nova run script.

The Automatic Tasks extension helps with this: github.com/little-green-man/no

But the extension still needs a full panel for projects that have many scripts: github.com/little-green-man/no
