5x7 Burke & James large format wooden view camera

I'm unsure at this point where I took this. I'd originally thought it came from my road trip between Portland and San Francisco in 2017, but I didn't have my 5x7 at that point. So 2018 is a guess, and the location a mystery.

Printed on warm tone paper from a paper negative that was a bit overexposed (hard to do, as it takes a long time to get a good exposure on darkroom paper).

I remember standing on the concrete pier with my head under the focusing cloth, watching the people walk past. There was a slight breeze and the sky was blue. Shot for a photography class I was taking at City College. Turned out well.

The railing is made of a horizontal metal grill, and the sunlight has created strong shadows from the grill which lie on the surface of the pier. These lines converge with the lines of the railing in the distance to the left. In the background from right to left stretches the San Francisco Bay Bridge, at a similar angle to the pier's railing. In the far distance to the left, pedestrians can be seen strolling along the pier.
