For me a print can be made from any repeatable mark making process. In addition to pen plotting my prints usually include manual media application techniques like stencils.

I think the moral of the story is vinyl cutters make mediocre pen plotters and Inkscape isn’t a great tool for HPGL.
At some point in the process one of them shits the bed and and draws a line right through the drawing.
Dashed lines also don’t work; I _think_ HPGL has a line type description feature, so maybe it’s the plotter just not accepting it.
On the plus side, I (sort of) finally got HPGL out of OSX Inkscape by rolling back to v1.3.

I wish I could buy a legit copy of AutoCAD R14 or 2000. That’s all I’d really need for this.

I discovered a new-to-me 'She Wants Revenge' b-sides album last night, and wanting to replicate its handwritten CD is the motivation I needed to finally update my 3D-printer-pen-plotter to work with the Beacon and Klipper.

Unfortunately, I've run out of filament so I can't print the final iteration until tomorrow :'-(

New instance, new city, new introduction?

Hi I’m Jessica! I recently moved to Boston from NYC. Along with that change, I was a software engineer for a decade (ML/DS/etc) and now I’m a grad student at the MIT Media Lab.

I mostly post about my art project things. I use a live coding framework I’ve been coding in rust to create live audio-reactive visuals (that I've performed live with livecode.nyc and other nyc orgs), create generative art, and things to pen plot.
I’m currently exploring patterns and nature and glitches.

Today's prompt for #plotparty, #noink, pushed me to do something I've been meaning to try for a long time: #penplotting on a transparency and using to make a #cyanotype. I like how this turned out.

"Point-Line-Plane' is #genuary22 which I interpreted as "Kandinsky'. Decided to plot them so I'm counting them as #genuary23 too (128 x 128 (mm) -which is what it showed on my phone and 12 X 12 (cm) - which my laptop showed).

Good morning and happy 2024! A few weeks ago @ai6yr posted a $4.01 cheque that Steve Jobs had written to Radioshack in 1976 [1] and I added it to the 'To Make' list.

I edited out the writing to make a blank cheque, and created a pen plotter path to write it out again. This is the first attempt and it's slightly misaligned with not enough pressure, but a good start.

Found a spindle of blank white CD-Rs at an op shop, finally! So I busted out the pen plotter 3d-printer attachment, and outlined the malware CD from Mr Robot.

Looking back at the screenshots I took from the show, I definitely need to get one of those chunky rectangle textas to go over the outline with.

I did this yesterday. Drawn line by line as a digital vector drawing (thousands and thousands of little hand drawn lines ha ha ha 😅) which I then got the Axidraw to put on paper.
