After many years, work is finally taking me to Germany, and #München in particular.
I've always wanted to visit, ever since sharing a flat with a very proud Bavarian back in early 90s Edinburgh.

I won't have much time, but if anyone can suggest a decent bar or two, that would be gratefully appreciated.

recommend me things to do in #Copenhagen !

i'm flying with my soon-to-be-wife (pictured) for a few days and we're looking for fun stuff to do together!
both of us are nerds, so the best rec will be stuff like what is to this day the best thing we ever did om vacation: Amsterdam's microbe museum (highly recommended btw).

ever visited and have recs? live there and know some of the less-famous things that are worth a visit? let us know please! :boostRequest:

Anyone can recommend #Literary #Blogs that are NOT in substack? I feel the content getting a bit commercialized... like back on SEO days and thus loose their charm.

Anyone know of a good email service? (Sending out auth emails)

Currently I’m forced to advise clients to use AWS, but I’d rather use a service that’s not supporting a billionaire’s lifestyle.

In moving house and getting induction, a few of my pans no longer work (I knew that going in).

it's big sale season, and I'm ready to replace things. But I'm in a spiral about skillets and frying pans - non-stick, cast iron, or stainless steel?

My previous set up wasn't ideal (a giant non-stick lidded skillet that had long stopped being non-stick which I used for everything, a non-stick crepe pan that was perfect and miraculous, and a lidded medium-sized stainless steel skillet).

I'm thinking the new arrangement looks something like:
- lidded medium stainless steel skillet
- small non-stick skillet (maybe ceramic?)
- medium or small cast iron skillet? (are they just a faff?)
- maaaaybe something large as well, but I don't know yet whether that's a pan or a wok (I have to research induction and woks)

Do you have recommendations for me?

Is a cast iron skillet worth it, or just too heavy?

Sunday morning question for everyone:

What are your favourite vego* cookbooks?

I don't use cookbook recipes much, but I love to browse then do it myself, so I use a lot of meaty ones and just make my own substitutions. But I get asked for veg recommendations a lot.

But my favourite actually vego books so far are:
- East, Meera Sodha (every recipe I've followed is fantastic)
- Plenty and Plenty More, Ottolenghi (for the food porn)
- Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romeo's baking series for consistently good sweets

Easiest application to clip a video with no watermark? Preferably Linux, or Android.

I sometimes use OpenShot but it's really complicated and multistep workflow for what is essentially cutting 4-5 seconds of preexisting video. PS: I see you wanting to recommend ffmpeg, I heart you, I heart ffmpeg too, but the first word in this post is "Easiest"

Hullo internet people!

I need recommendations for podcasts or magazines or books, for my Dad, a country-dwelling, mildly reactionary boomer tradie, with a very short attention span (at the moment). He generally listens to talk back radio nonsense (but doesn't want to do that all day).

He is in rehab with a brain injury and physical injuries, and he's getting depressed, but can't focus long on anything.

He likes:
- flying light aircraft
- Dad jokes
- easily digested pop science
- home renovations
- easily understood medical and other science innovations

We have very little cross over in interests or opinions, so I've got no idea, but I want the help make his days less depressing if I can.

A Journalist to follow is Zecharias Zelalem. Here @ZekuZelalem posts about east Africa and it's politics and stories. His posts are always very well researched and easy to understand, with maps and other media to illustrate and deepen the topic.
I'm looking forward for his reporting in 2024!

My addiction to farming games is needing something new again.

I've reached the WIP parts of Coral Island and finished the last unlock in Travellers rest (hard spirits).

Even tho Travellers rest is very much not anywhere close to finished I really enjoyed the gameplay loop.

Contemplating playing stardew expanded or trying to find something new.

Not sure if Aka or Potion Permit would be worth it on the switch, I know they have problems and are aware of them but I'm still interested.
Or Bear and Breakfast on the PC (I've heard the switch port struggles)

Just really into cozy escapism atm and need my fix!

I should add - I have played:
Littlewood
World's Dawn
Ooblets

Not finished:
Graveyard Keeper
Summer in Mara
Wylde Flowers
Spiritfarer
Dreamlight Valley
Yonder

Tried:
My Time at Portia
Little Witch in the Woods
Dinkum
Verdant Skies
Harvestella

(meant what I said about addiction! 🙈)

I have a #RandomQuestion

Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginners telescope? I enjoy stargazing, and would like to elevate my experience.
I would love to find one on the cheaper side but I don’t want to waste my money on something that’s only good for looking at the moon. I’m interested in seeing planets and some of the major celestial objects.

Any recommendations are appreciated!

Since #youtube is my daily distraction method I am always looking for more creators to watch, especially non-white creators, as I've noticed YouTube silos you *a lot*.

Any #reccommendations are appreciated - boost so as many as possible can see?

I prefer funny, not-meanspirited stuff that doesn't require too much brain power (I do watch essays too, it just doesn't work as bg noise) - Ppl playing games wrong,
Unusual stuff reviews,
Obscure games,
Game challenges, etc,
even been watching die-cast racing

examples of some of the youtubers I will watch immediately when they upload:

#MacDoesIt
#SafiaNygaard
