… and the original note
… and the original note
Not a bad start at all, straight from a handwritten note into reflect and mostly free thanks to a bit of self hosting.
Well, I've tossed a few hours into researching Obsidian Plugins and weird enough I fail at the simplest requirement:
I want a sidebar that I can fully customise.
Obsidion's Ribbon bar doesn't work as it's icons-only and bookmarks doesn't allow you to add plugin-views as bookmarks.
All I really want is a clean bar like the one in the following image - a set of fixed topics on top and a list of pinned notes on the bottom (and it should work that way on mobile too)
So..
I’ve been trying out #ReflectNotes recently and they seem like the almost perfect cross between #obsidianmd and #logseq with the weird bit of actually usable AI features sprinkled in (the kind that lets you summarise or transform your notes or do audio transcription).
While I really like Reflect I’m still in their free trail and I’m not sure I would be wanting to pay a billed-annually subscription for it even though it’s the only income for the company apparently.
So I’ve been wondering if I could gently hammer Obsidian to behave as close to Reflect, getting rid of UI clutter, etc.
So far I’m missing plugins that work together to provide these features (all need to work on desktop, iOS and iPad):
a “Calendar” to integrate with iCloud Calendar and pull events / allow me to add Tasks/Todos as events (Reflect doesn’t do the later yet either)
a good “Task” view that collects from all of my notes and lets me interact with them as well as seeing if a task is current/due/overdue
detailed Backlinks l, in Reflect Inliterally have empty Notes that are referenced all throughout my Daily Notes and their content is pretty much just everything pulled together from backlinks (I guess that could be done with data queries)
“the AI stuff”:
in-app recording and transcription of audio notes
So, I have been using reflect.app for the past six days. I have posted a mini-review of the app on Medium.
The Reflect notes app is a serious contender against Obsidian.

I am excited to be starting a new YouTube tutorial from @cortexfutura to finally begin to properly learn #Tana .
This series is highly recommended by #TanaAmbassador @rjnestor #RJNestor
This is a very well produced and enjoyable experience with great explanations.

@kalayo I like it, but I have to revisit it to learn how to use it and undo my unnecessary import from #Notion . I think they are definitely onto something and it is a worthwhile tool to consider depending on one’s needs.
Since I am not an "all or nothing" thinker, I like to evaluate a tool to see how it can be useful while still using and maintaining my current #PKM system, #LogSeq , as well as the others that I am interested in like @capacities #ClickUp #Taskade #ReflectApp & #acreom
@EpiphanicSynchronicity @torb My self-inflicted shenanigans :blobcatmelt: in 1st setting up both my #Obsidian & LogSeq vaults & then “successfully" :ablobwave: syncing said vaults to iCloud have lead me to fear opening either on mobile and usually using #HintsAI from https://Hints.so or #FleetingNotes for direct to #ObsidianMD or considering using @capacities , #ReflectApp , #Tana , @joplinapp or #AnyType for mobile entries on the go. I prefer desktop for longer entries, so it works out.
@TheMightyRuxpin WIth #ReflectApp, where do my notes actually live? Cloud exclusively, or also local?
Today, I tried to sign in to my old Reflect trial account (expired). I can see my notes in a web browser, but they're read-only. The app itself won't launch, but sends me to the web app. I don't see a way to download or export my sample notes. No local copies that I can find.
If those were valuable notes, I'd be in a bit of a pickle, maybe. (Hope I'm wrong about this or missing something!)
Hmmm. Why would someone pay $10.00 a month for #ReflectApp when either #Logseq or #Obsidian provides very similar functionality (and even a similar UI) for free?
Not being snarky; I'm genuinely curious. What's the value proposition here?
Question for #PKM, #RoamResearch, #ObsidianMD, #logseq, and #ReflectApp users...
Anyone using no or almost no tags? Anyone using no or almost no folders? What's the biggest friction you have? I use tags mostly to scope search. I.e. search all notes with this tag for this string. But wondering if it's necessary. Also wondering if I even need my status tags. I don't really use them...
