I officially registered my business in June 1988, and I chose today as the specific day( Happy TAV Creations Day🎉🎂). These dresses were made during the gestation period- while I was still in high school - spring 1985 and 1986!

The best kind of day for me as a #SelfEmployed #editor: When an #author emails me to say they’re very happy with my #edits and feel that I helped them say things very #clearly, so they will be #recommending me to their #colleagues. ☀️
Typical Monday: Can’t wait to get my hands in clay but must first get through the mountain of emails and other admin tasks. It all really piled up while I was traveling. How’s your Monday going so far? #WFH #SelfEmployed #WorkingArtist

I'm in a weird space at the moment because it looks a lot like I'll be retraining soon but I can't just wind down the business or start shifting my content yet because capitalism and I need to actually qualify (in 3+ years...).
Knowing how to organise my online life, especially regarding work at the moment is a nightmare.
Reposting this announcement about my website, now that I have my teeny tiny instance running on the Fediverse. It's also going to be the first image I post to this new instance :)
Every few years I try to rethink what it means to share my work online, and give the website a bit of a cut and polish. I always feel like I'm fighting gravity.
This week I've focused on the home page, and trying to make it easy for someone to find something they might be interested in. 25 years of work has gone into it, you'd hope there's a little treat for most folks hidden away in there.
Every year I get confused and need to think through this again, so I made this table. Hope it helps someone else!
Next topic is when you over-service your clients, and spend time they aren't paying for. But you want to to finish the job to a high standard, and you do the extra work anyway.
The older lad points out, we do this because we don't value ourselves enough. Not just our work, but we lack confidence in ourselves. Deep down. We keep trying to be high-achievers, or people-pleasers.
We try to please people, and we bust a gut in the process.
Older lad pointed out that his entire career he's made sure he takes holidays and spends a little time with his wife and kids. That's the top priority.
The young lad doesn't even take holidays. Which he's thinking maybe is a bit shit for his family and maybe he needs to rethink that.
Watching a video with two builders talking about the perils of being self-employed. And the toll it takes.
Sometimes it's nice just to hear two blokes sharing their experiences. I don't have enough of that in my life.
Thought this was funny.
Hey, #Trump, we #SelfEmployed people pay #taxes and add to the #economy. We’re not nothing. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/kokedit_fact-checking-trumps-100-day-rally-in-michigan-activity-7323340036601532416-aPej?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios&rcm=ACoAAACBLh8BKizVOxJMKKqeH-rrEMhwmUcweK4
By which I mean that this is how the #office looks in spring—not that I work there only in springtime. I moved into my office in 2021. (I have been #SelfEmployed since 1995.)
Yesterday was such a long day at school with viewing and marking 2nd year final presentations that I crashed by 7pm on the couch after eating a somewhat healthy sort of supper. < Pizza and soup>
This morning a client who had rescheduled from the weekend arrived 30 minutes early, and BOTH HER DRESSES WENT!!! so yay.
Now I'm just contemplating my options while it is still only 30% chance of rain.
I think this calls for a bike ride.

One thing I am learning the hard way is that you only understand what employers genuinely expect of you when you take working for yourself seriously, and focus on making yourself accountable in that recursive interaction.
In the last few months, I have been bossing myself for the creation of a job matcher in Germany and I honestly feel like I finally understand how to operate honestly and fairly in a work environment.
