Today, @jhembrow and I took part in the Extinction Rebellion protest against pesticide use, especially the extra high level of usage for growing flowers.
Why do we still have to do this, 63 years after "Silent Spring" was published ?

Is Earth Day's legacy at risk? Heather Cox Richardson reflects on its origins, rooted in Rachel Carson’s **Silent Spring**, which challenged pesticide use and sparked public advocacy. Major environmental events led to over 20 million Americans rallying for reform in 1970. Today, however, Richardson critiques the Trump administration's focus on resource extraction over conservation, risking hard-earned environmental protections. Explore these contrasts and their implications. Read more [here](https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/april-22-2025). #EarthDay #Environmentalism #SilentSpring #ClimateChange
Heute: nichts.
@FelisCatus
In France, we have seen black mylans at the end of January, whereas they come down at the end of March. On a sunny February 1st, early in the morning, birds were singing as if it were spring. Problem: the polar vortex threatens to split into two parts and bring severe cold.
Yet another MSM article that fails to mention pollution when another dead orca is found. Fat soluable toxins get into the milk that newborns must then drink. A heavy load in mom means a heavy dose for the newborn.

As we have just discovered, we live in a country where the population is so GD stupid they think measuring the temperature rise in Celsius means it's only happening in countries that are on the Metric system.
I'm serious. 😞

What a bunch of hooey! Yes, Uranium is natural and should be kept in the ground!!! smh Hey, remember the ads that used to tout, "DDT is good for me!" Yeah, about that. Should we fear ALL chemicals? Of course not. More like, should we fear being LIED to by #BigChemical, who have told us stuff was safe when in fact it wasn't. It seems the author doesn't want to acknowledge the harm done by greedy capitalists, and maybe she should start drinking Roundup to see how "safe" it is. smh.

Rachel Carson's book indicting the pesticide industry, Silent Spring, was published.
The scientist (17 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) and writer demonstrated the connection between the excessive and ubiquitous use of DDT and its long-term effect on plants and animals.

What are ‘forever chemicals’

The warning of #RachelCarson, the late American marine biologist and writer, in #SilentSpring still remains powerful 60 years later: the chemicals we use in attempts to control nature are pushing its fragile limits beyond what it can handle.

A Short History Of The #WholeEarthCatalog

July 5, 2020
"Who remembers the Whole Earth Catalog? Anyone?
"For some, the Whole Earth Catalog was the bible for all things green and #ecofriendly, #offgrid, #BackToNature, and #enviromentally conscious and #sustainable.
"If you think environmentalism is a new phenomenon you’d be wrong.
"The seeds of the movement were planted with the writings of #JohnMuir in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. But perhaps, even more so by the publication in 1854 of #HenryDavidThoreau’s influential masterpiece #Walden.
"The modern environmental movement can arguably be traced back to the publication of #RachelCarson’s classic #SilentSpring in 1962.
"One of the major rallying points for the eco-movement was concern for the #pollution of the Great Lakes.

"As John Markoff, a technology writer for the New York Times, told the Guardian, the Whole Earth Catalog was 'the internet before the internet. It was the book of the future. It was a web in newsprint.'"

Where are all the #butterflies this year?
I really have seen barely any…and what about other insects? Very few spotted in my garden…the most common visitor are slugs.
The more I think about it, the most eerie this seems.
