Although I guess its legally correct, #squatter doesn't seem like the right word in this case in #Southend #Essex - it appears the Council or some other group has provided #housing for vulnerable people, who were then invaded by hard #drugs dealers and bullies who trashed their house and even attacked one of the legitimate residents (bringing the #Police to the building and getting the whole lot locked off)

Think about this - The #squatter #problem in the #USA only exists so that people can't feel #safe in their home.

So why did #Squatter #BoardGame have a big impact on me? Hmm.

Partly because there just weren't many board games around, in my youth. Highly-produced board games were very sparse on the shelves, there certainly weren't board game sections in department stores.

So I think a big part of it might be: Unlike every other (again, not many) board games commercially produced and available to be discovered, in Australia at that time
this one was made in Australia, and made for Australians. I'd never seen anything like that before.

This was a new concept to me. #Australia #CulturalCringe is real: a huge proportion of "Australian culture" is imported wholesale from other countries and plonked in front of us to consume.

This was different, and even though I can't express why, it felt great.

My nostalgia for the #BoardGame #Squatter https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2970/squatter is difficult for me to express.

Nostalgia is certainly what led me to, several years ago, buy the 2016 edition. (Partly: Nostalgia for those little sheep meeples, which were in the original but were absent in the previous edition.)
But it's not a good game; and it's not-good in the boring ways that pre-2000-era board games tended to be not good.

Takes too long to resolve; not enough interesting choices; an early lead is too difficult to challenge and yet the game doesn't end; etc.

And yet, I felt drawn to it.

Saw a house where the front door was bricked up with bricks and expansion foam. I’ve seen that before in #Brussels. Is that an attempt at #squatter-proofing a vacant house? Seems like a double-edged sword. You make it harder for squatters to enter but at the same time you send a loud message to squatters that the house is vacant.

So, I whenever I open an account on a #social network or platform, I always try to make the account @ Patrickstewart for obvious reasons.

When I recently got back onto #Medium, I used my email to sign in and the account was open since 2015. I wrote one article that October and then didn't come back to it until 2 weeks ago.

Today, I decided to go see if the @ patrickstewart name was taken, and of course, being a #famous name, it was. I wanted to see just who had MY NAME 🤣

I enter the username and notice there was only one article written in 2014 and nothing since so basically a #squatter, I thought, until I looked at the profile picture... I remember that image...

OMG This is MY account! What email address did I even use? How do I get back into it? What do I even use it for now?

I need to have a talk with 31 year old me about how to properly use social media.
