Here’s where the dB’s tried to tamp down their more eccentric influences, and reached for some mainstream success. Syd Straw (who also sang for the Golden Palominos) makes a guest appearance on vocals.
The first two great albums were UK only. On Like This they lost Stamey, and Holsapple took over. Then the label went under. Here they were with I.R.S.
It’d be their last real album for a long time… dB’s can’t win.

Two great albums in, Chris Stamey took his leave, and as of the 3rd album, Peter Holsapple was leading the dB's. While I'm not sure it was "for the better", since I thought the contrast between the co-leaders was interesting, Holsapple brought a bunch of great tunes, and the band made a great record.
"I can understand / Why you'd want a better man / But why do you want to make him out of me?"
Definitely less arty...but still the dBs.
