Occasionally a comment to a post is deleted. Or sometimes it hasn't reached my server for whatever reason. In this case, I can tell based on the next comment that it's from Bluesky and I really just don't care enough about that service to figure out why my server may not be pulling it down correctly.
But it sucks to have broken threads because one bit goes missing. So I added in this "Unavailable Comment" component just now.
I think that will help.

🎉 Behold! The riveting saga of #threading, in which we learn that #Macs used to be as #multitasking as a goldfish 🐠, but now they're more like an octopus juggling flaming torches! 🔥 Because nothing screams "cutting-edge technology" like retelling the thrilling tale of how computers learned to walk and chew gum at the same time. 🖥️💥

"Free Threaded Django"
Breaking down the GIL barriers! Explore how Django is evolving for Python's free-threaded future and what this means for performance 🚀

What a great reference on threading with Python. The stuff I create doesn't normally need threads, but I can think of a few projects that could benefit from threading.

Obsidian Threading Plugin Test
I've installed Obsidian and Mastodon-Threading on my Mac to automatically break up long posts into <500 character replies with a thread post counter.
Only the 1st post is Public, mentions and hashtags must be posted:

And on May 2024 when social.coop was discussing whether to increase character limits I posted this thread gesturing toward the idea that maybe keeping character limits is a good idea for Mastodon instances:

There was also this April, 2024 poll on how people prefer to consume longform content on Fedi:

I think my first Mastodon thread about threading structure was this July, 2023 thread:
https://social.coop/@dynamic/110656011613352543
I seemed to recall having written a thread about thread structure before, but a quick search reveals that it's actually a thing I keep coming back to. Links to related threads follow.
I think the main disadvantage of structuring a thread with toots all at the same level is that on #Mastodon, when any subtoot is activated, the rest of the thread (except for the top post) becomes invisible.
In my previous thread (on infosec wishlist items, here https://social.coop/@dynamic/115004207618295294) I took the plunge and intentionally violated conventional Mastodon thread structure.
It's a bit of an experiment, and I'll see whether I regret it.

Das bringt mich zu einer Frage:
#Threading in the #Fediverse
