It would be absurd to say that American presidents have always been principled defenders of #freedom & #democracy, but their long-shared, bipartisan definition of #tyrant is one who oppresses his own. So it’s striking that these warnings about tyrants in distant lands, who were supposedly the opposite of the kind of legitimate, democratic leaders elected in the United States of America, now apply to the sitting #US president, Donald #Trump.

Watch who the #Tyrant goes after. They will be the threats *against* tyranny. Find them, and support them. This might be individuals, institutions, movements.
We find them, we may have found our allies against tyranny.

The tyrant does not care about how his actions benefit or harm the country. Do not try to understand how he can say and do all the absurd stuff. It is more than likely not 4D chess to make your country great, the #Tyrant probably does not mean all he says.
It is a loyalty test, not meant as a sensible position.

Next step: The #tyrant must find people who are willing to do his bidding. This can be done by demanding public ass-kissing. Those who comply can be used to do the tyrants work.

The #tyrant may want to
- purge people of integrity from key positions in society.
- run smear campaigns against people of integrity.
- strip key positions of power if they are impossible to remove.

The would be #Tyrant needs to overcome two obstacles:
- People of integrity, people who can not be pressured. These enjoy trust from a lot of people.
- Mutual trust among citizens.

Resistance is only possible if you have people you can trust, in sufficient numbers, because #resistance needs to be organised.

Tyranny comes in degrees. A would be #tyrant seeks to gain more power in his own hands in and to enrich himself.
