My wife will tell you of my obsession with the proper care of the #USFlag. I've e-mailed corporate head offices to complain abt tattered #StarsAndStripes at franchise locations during vacation. I bitch abt #OldGlory being left out at night without lighting. TOUCHING THE FUCKING GROUND!?! #Impeach

Hmm. Former VP and war criminal Dick Cheney has passed.

Seems I forgot to lower my home's flag to half-staff before I left this morning.

I'm just so forgetful lately, I wouldn't be surprised if I forget it again tomorrow.

I've had so much going on that I totally spaced posting about these again 😅, but with another #nokings #protest coming up; I've finally added distress flag beaded pins to my shop! I'm offering two styles, and while I only have a few ready to go atm; I'm also accepting orders for them 😉🙌.

Both options are listed in my Mayhem Marketplace shop and linked separately below. Feel free to holler if you have any questions! And if you have a sec, reposting to boost me would be very much appreciated 🥰🤗!

Trump's executive order banning political flag burning -- clearly doesn't go far enough. We need to ban those tattered flags on pickups (with the flag left out unilluminated ALL NIGHT!), and all those diminished representations of the flag, tattered, without proper colors (BLUE STRIPES!). Improper use of flags (BEATING police with flag poles!). Mandatory jail for all! Especially for -- uh -- molesting the flag...

Being a Scout, I would not be able to sleep tonight if I did not go up to them and told the keeper that with everything going on right now in the US, we do not wear flags as capes. I got ignored, but I had to say my peace. Then he took off the costume and there sits the flag on ground. #flag #usflag

I've been spending time with family at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, CA for a week now. Sunday was a blustery day and the flag was half mast for the Pope.

No, it’s not #illegal to display the #USflag upside down

The #US. #flag code says #American #flags should not be displayed upside-down except as a signal of “dire #distress,” but #freespeech protections prevent #prosecution.

The law is clear: flags shall be flown at half-staff for thirty days after the death of a President.

But, you know, fuck the law.
Right?
Fuck. The. Law.

President-elect complained about possibility of flags remaining at half-mast for swearing-in despite US tradition

[by] Anna Betts

American flags at the US Capitol will fly at full-staff for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in Washington DC on Monday, despite a White House order for flags to remain at half-staff for 30 days after the death of former president Jimmy Carter last month.

The House speaker, Mike Johnson, first announced the change on Tuesday. In a post on social media he wrote: “On January 20th, the flags at the Capitol will fly at full-staff to celebrate our country coming together behind the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump.” He added: “The flags will be lowered back to half-staff the following day to continue honoring President Jimmy Carter.”

Following the death of Carter on 29 December 2024, US flags have been flown at half-staff at federal properties, by tradition after the death of a former president, including at the Capitol. Joe Biden ordered the flags to be lowered for a period of 30 days, in accordance with the US flag code.

A cheap, non-obvious, D.C.-adjacency-required way to get a quality American flag

The American flag we’d bought in the summer of 2021 had faded and then developed a tear at one corner, so it was time to buy a replacement. That’s been a task that’s come due every three to four years over our two decades and counting of home ownership–the Stars and Stripes are not forever when subjected to mid-Atlantic weather–but this time I wanted to research my options instead of throwing still more money at Amazon.

At some point, probably in the middle of work-related clicking around, that shopping research led me to my congressman’s Web site. Rep. Don Beyer (D.-Va.), like other members of Congress, has a flag-request form that I’d thought of only as a way to buy a flag flown over the Capitol. But on actually eyeballing that form, I realized that I could buy an unflown, 3-by-5-foot cotton flag for just $15… at a mandatory shipping cost of $10.75.

Paying that much for shipping bothered me when I can get to and from the Capitol for $6 and change via Metro, less if I use Capital Bikeshare on the way there. Fortunately, the legislative branch of the U.S. has two houses, so I checked the site of Sen. Tim Kaine (D.-Va.) and saw that I could buy the same flag at the same $15 price and pick it up for free. Sold!

(Sen. Mark Warner, D.-Va., also offers free flag pickup; I’m not aware of complaints about Rep. Beyer’s constituent service, so maybe this is a site-template issue on the House side?)

Three business days later, I got an e-mail from a staff assistant for Sen. Kaine saying the flag was ready for pickup at his office in the Russell Senate Office Building. I stopped by Tuesday evening on the way to an event in Navy Yard, appreciating the Russell Building’s handsome Beaux-Arts architecture, then attached our reasonably-priced purchase to the flagpole on our front porch Wednesday morning.

Sometime that afternoon or evening, a gust of wind put enough strain to crack a plastic bracket on one of the flagpole rings that had helped secure the flag, leaving it clumsily draped over the shrubbery below the pole. I am fixing that problem by ordering two new rings–which means I’m throwing still more money at Amazon.
