#Oxford Music Festival: in the first half-day of two days worth of string classes, we had 21 #violins, only one #cello, no #violas, no #doubleBass. are we losing #diversity? The day included everything from tiny beginners to scary good, so not fundamentally an age effect.

Next to the small emerald arborvitae trees in pots, there’s a huge, faded terracotta colored plastic pot where I planted 4 Violas.
This is where I stuck the pruned branch of cherry in the soil, which not only survived the winter but also recently put a few flowers to amaze me. Assuming it’s rooted and alive, I carefully planted violas around it, leaving the branch undisturbed. There are also wild violas in the center, which hasn’t flowered since transplanted.

I planted four violas in each corners. There are also two sedums in both sides of the cherry tree, as well as some goldenrods.
The cherry blossoms are shedding the pink petals on the ground. And there’s that moment of zen tranquility in the city street.

Merry Christmas on a chilly and wet day in my garden. The pansies and violas do not mind and the narcissus is poking through!

I am so, so fond of pansies and violas. How can you not just love their faces?! I would grow nothing but pansies and violas all year if I could get away with it, but as soon as we warm up in spring they quickly become leggy and usually succumb to powdery mildew. At least I get to enjoy their exuberance from now until then 🥰

Hi #BloomScrolling! GM from the front porch #flowers. One of my Etsy #succulents is still working on its amazing flower spike. The edible #violas are bouncing back from being heavily grazed by the chickens. And I carried a potted #dahlia over for some new color.

A grey-blue succulent is well camouflaged in a bed of grey-blue pebbles, but its grey-blue-pink flower spikes are very visible. They arc up to almost knee high then flop over and unfold their pink bud-shaped inflorescences. Behind them to one side is a strawberry planter with thriving young alpine strawberry plants, and further back to the other side are some cheerful yellow flowers.

A pot of magenta and yellow violas are cheerfully yelling like a surprised emoji. Behind them are some yellow flowers, and behind those are some vivid orange ones.

A really cute single dwarf dahlia. It’s a bright salmon that will fade to cheerful peach.

My very disorganized front porch garden. It’s an east facing pebbled area, dotted with a chaos of various pots. There’s a lot of cheerful yellow, a few spots of bright purple and deep orange. A tiny Mexican pottery donkey planter stands happily in a small patch of ground cover succulents.
