#Republicans can elect their god damned local dog catchers any way they want

Vote-by-Mail works like this:

1) Ballots are mailed out to the mailing address of registered voters

2) USPS records the ballot as Mailed; Delivered to the registered voter; and having been Mailed Back

3) County elections records the ballot as Received; Signature Verified; and vote Counted

Being doing it in my county since 2009 and my entire state since 2014

It looks like this:

Planning on voting by mail in 2026? BEWARE: changes to when mail gets postmarked could invalidate your ballot.

It used to be that mail got postmarked at your local post office the day you dropped it off. Now, it will get postmarked the day it hits a regional processing center, which could be one or two business days later.

This also hits folks who submit tax returns by mail.

Well this sure feels like a pretty blatant attack on "Vote by Mail" doesn't it?

TL;DR The US Postal Service will put whatever darned postmark/date it likes (or maybe none at all) on mail, so you can't rely on that as any indication of when an item was mailed.

The trump-compliant #USPS has changed the rules for the #postmark date of mail. As of last Wednesday, December 24, the postmark date is the day they #process your mail piece, NOT the day you drop it off.

If you do #VBM, try to find a secure government #dropbox. If you can’t, put your #ballot in the mail far ahead of time — or, if you can, take it to the #postoffice and have the agent there #postmark it in front of you. #votersuppression #votebymail

Just submitted my "vote by mail" Oregon ballot. The filled out ballot goes in the secrecy envelope, then in the signed and sealed outer envelope. There's a paper trail for each voter AND each ballot, unlike some computer voting systems favored by Republicans. And like many, maybe most voters, I don't actually mail mine. I drop it in an armored and camera-observed drop box at city hall. It's a great and safe system, despite what conservative assholes will tell you.
