The homemade #PalletFork is starting to look like money. These sell for €300 to €500 if you buy one instead of welding it from scrap steel found around the farm.

Self-made pallet forks for a mini-tractor's rear attachment sitting on two wooden spacers on top of an outdoor workbench. Just cookin’ some steel

Added some reinforcement pieces at the critical corner. That concludes the welding.

Cleaned up a bit with powered and manual wire brushes, then put on some anti-rust primer (Novakor from Rilak). Painting is where you pay for not using closed profiles 😆

Looking forward to using this thing to tidy up the yard!

Bottom corner where the forks meet the frame. A 6mm plate cut from an angle iron is welded between forks and crossbar to strenghten the corner joint and handle twisting loads. The palletforks lay on their side on a workbench.

#PalletFork progress! 🎇

Made the top pieces for the ears (lift arm connections is the technical term, I think) and made a crossbeam, which took some elaborate measuring but fit pretty good.

Some seam welding later and then a moment of immense satisfaction: It fits! Took it for a spin immediately, of course.

Even better, I thought I might need a shorter top link but it looks like I might just get away with the one I got.

The rust converter has been busy over night and some rust has turned black.

Still need to finish a couple seams and then weld a bunch of extra armour points to the critical fulcrums to increase the load rating. So far I only tested it with my bodyweight

A chunk of C-beam with two angled cuts on the side and a tang sticking out that is labeled "Keep".

The same beam, now welded in between the triangular supports of the homemade palletforks. The ears are now also complete, with flat bars forming an angle to support the connection. A welding helmet is on the workbench and a clamp attached at the top.

The pallet fork attached to the rear three point hitch of a small blue tractor for the first time, hovering above a horrible bunch of mud.

Money shot. Same pallet fork on same tractor, reversed into some clean snow and with the forks raised up to the level of the rear axle.

Set up the plasma cutter, which we don't have enough power for and so I can barely use it at half and frazzled a hole into the undrillable steel, then made it round and clean(ish) with the die grinder, which took a good while. Funny, the angle grinder cut the stuff just fine. This is why your legendary items are so expensive - bloody difficult materials to work with!

Top link fitting is on and the ears are aligned and tacked on, the aligning being the hard work here.

Rusty piece of 6mm impenetrable legendary steel bar with a fresh hole burnt through it. The hole has rough edges from a plasma cutter and isn't quite large enough nor very round. A ground clamp is attached to it and it's in a vise.

The pallet forks being worked on, clamped to the improvised outdoor workbench so they don't move. The top fitting is welded on, two C-channel pieces with angled tops and the sides shortened. A pin is going through them. Further down two tangs with link arm pins in them are tacked on, one still being held by blue welding magnets. A piece of wood with pencil markings is clamped to the steel triangle as a guide. A small green welder stands on the bench behind. The yard is one giant puddle of mud and melting snow.

Voilà mon nouveau petit monster-cookie. Il est le frère du flying sausage que jai fait il y a 2 ans, dans le sens où j'ai repris les mêmes éléments: demi suspension moto, demi cadenas vélo, batons de golf... je l'avais dans la tête depuis tout ce temps!

Progress on the #PalletFork

Working with reclaimed steel is a lot slower. I was cleaning up rust and dirt, welding shut some holes where the fence wire used to go through and painting rust converter on where it would be difficult later.

After much measuring and aligning, I cut the frame and tack-welded it together.

Then a filler plate into the top.

In between, some angle grinder repair (broken wire) and of course the fluxcore reel ran out and needed swapping.
