💙 🏅 Gold für das SynBio-Team der #unistuttgart beim diesjährigen #iGEM Wettbewerb👏 💙

iGEM ist so etwas wie die "olympischen Denkspiele" in der synthetischen #Biologie. Die Studierenden aus Stuttgart gingen mit einer selbstentwickelten Bioleaching-Methode ins Rennen. Und das steckt dahinter💡 👇

👉 Bioleaching ist eine alternative und umweltfreundliche Methode, um seltene Metalle z.B. aus gebrauchten Autokatalysatoren zu recyceln. Die Arbeit machen Mikroorganismen.
🤔Aber, die Methode funktioniert bisher nur bei wenigen Metallen, wie z.B. Kupfer.
💁‍♀️Die Studierenden haben ein Bakterium genetisch so verändert, dass es eine Säure produziert, die Metalle wie Palladium, Platin oder Rhodium an sich binden kann. Quasi Recycling mit grüner Chemie.

Dafür gab es eine iGEM-Goldmedaille und eine Spitzenplatzierung in den Top 5 (Kategorie "Best Measurement"). Herzlichen Glückwunsch!👏
