The BBC must take a stand against Israel's war crimes and join the growing boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Russia and Belarus were rightly excluded following the illegal invasion of Ukraine. Why do the European broadcasters believe that Palestinian lives are worth less?

The Guardian. Iceland becomes fifth country to boycott Eurovision 2026 over Israel. Iceland joins Spain, Slovenia, the Netherlands and Ireland in neither participating in nor broadcasting event.

EU triggers emergency clause to indefinitely immobilise Russian assets

By doing so, the EU will lock the assets under its jurisdiction amid concerns that the US would seek control of the frozen assets and use them in a future settlement with Moscow as it negotiates an end to the war.

ICE said it found no records in response to our FOIA for body-worn camera footage from Operation Midway Blitz.

We’re pursuing our options to get to the bottom of it — and send ICE a clear message: It's not the secret police or exempt from accountability.

This is a 1st post in a 4 part miniseries intended for real newbies.

And now excuse me while I go hide in a cave expecting irate replies from sysadmins about certain things I wrote 😅

: After a seven-year journey on board the Cassini spacecraft, ESA’s Huygens probe reached Titan’s surface, marking the most distant landing ever achieved by a spacecraft. During the descent, its cameras collected data on the dense atmosphere and took the first-ever images of the surface. These revealed an extraordinary world with lakes, islands, and erosion features similar to those that shape our planet, confirming that liquid methane once flowed there. Credit: ESA/NASA

Day 11 #ArtAdventCalendar: Happy birthday to trailblazing US #astronomer Annie Jump Cannon (1863 – 1941), here with her stellar classification system which sorted stars based on spectral types, revealing their temperature from hot blue to cool red stars: O,B,A, F, G, K & M. Named the Harvard Classification after the university, her tremendous contribution was less visible. 🧵

#printmaking #womenInSTEM #histsci #DisabledInSTEM #linocut #mastoArt

My linocut of Annie Jump Cannon shows her in a 3/4 profile view wearing a shirt with a lace collar and her hair up. She is printed in a gradient of violet at the bottom to green at the top, printed on white 11” x 14” paper. The background is printed in a gradient (left to right) of dark blue, light blue, yellow, pale yellow, pale orange, orange and red. The background block excludes her silhouette of shoulder and head with the exception of a smattering of small dots in a swath from upper left to lower right (which extends to white spots on the coloured background). Also along the bottom are a series of circles of decreasing size (left to right, blue through red) labelled O, B, A, F, G, K, M. There’s a axis line along the bottom with 6 tick marks. Vertically from top to bottom along the left side are 15-, 10-, 5-, 0, 5, 20, 15.

Rec: "Do you mind if I take your picture for our files?"
Me: "That seems kind of weird."
Rec: "Oh, we're doing it so if there are two people with the same name in the waiting room blah, blah, blah..." "So, can I take your picture?"
Me: "No."

#OnThisDay, 11 Dec 1983, tens of thousands of women take part in 'reflect the base' at Greenham Common in the UK.

They encircle the 9 mile perimeter fence of the nuclear missile base, tearing it down in at least one place. Hundreds of women are arrested.

The Peace Camp at Greenham ran for nearly 20 years, and founded and run by women.

A black and white photo of some woods in winter. A long chainlink fence, topped with barbed wire, stretches from the rightmost corner to the horizon, following dips and hollows in the land. Along its entire length, as far as the eye can see, women are standing along the fence.
