This 10-year AI regulation moratorium that Republican Senators are pushing as part of their “One Big, Beautiful Bill” budget package would not only block new state + local rules protecting us from AI discrimination in housing, employment, and healthcare but this could also erase years of hard work passing bans on privacy-invading AI tech like facial recognition. The same tech being actively used by police, ICE + military to target vulnerable people, especially black and brown communities.

Where is the line for you?

At which point are you saying "that's enough! I have to stand up against this!" and actually go to a protest against this administration, boycott this company, or delete a social media account?

@Linux I switched to Linux 3 yrs ago & never looked back. I game every day with a large library. The one game that didn't work right off the bat works fine now under proton. Even prior to that, the game worked fine by moving a .dll file (i think it was something with audio involved). But either way, its great! I even bought a steam deck now. I haven't needed to touch windoze ever since. Even for windows work applications, running them through steam & proton work great!!!

@drahardja My elderly grandmothers license plate expired and she missed it (shes old, it happens). She got pulled over & the female cop apparently told her "I ran your plate on our license plate reader camera (on the corner) and it shows you drove down this road at least twice a day since it expired, your lucky I don't ticket you for each time you were driving"... Eventually she was given a warning, but it just showed us both how those cameras on the corner that read plates are used for more than just "automatically spotting stolen cars" like they claimed on the town website, and is logging license plates that pass by in a database somewhere...

@nixCraft Commander Keen 4. I absolutely loved that game when I was little. My grandpa gave me his win3.1 PC when I turned 3 & he pre loaded it with all the hits like doom & Wolfenstein but I kept finding myself going back to commander keen 4 in particular ever sense.

The article claims that Fedora is just at a brainstorming stage for this now. FC42 is due out in a couple months, none of this is happening by then. Changes to Fedora go through the Fedora Changes Process: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/program_management/changes_policy/

There will be plenty of time for the community to make their opinions known / give input. Join the community, get involved.

As for Rocky Linux, Enterprise Linux is generally based on a Fedora release that's about a year old by the time it's released. Many Fedora features / changes do not make it to EL until they're proven stable for years, and when they do they're often just a "developer preview".

Thus I do not anticipate seeing any AI/ML features _bundled_ (i.e. in a default "Workstation", "Server with GUI", "Server", or "Minimal Install" installation configuration) in EL for a very long time. If / when they ever are, it'll be a boring, stable, unexciting thing.

Stable and boring is the EL way.

ffs this is linux were talking about, if we want AI in our system, we can choose what we want and install it ourselfs. We dont want the shit forced down our throats and dont want to use bloated systems. There is enough crap I have to remove.

Hopefully @kde is safe for now since it seems focused mostly with @gnome for now but i wouldn't trust the entire distro if they go for this sort of change.

It looks like its time to distro-hop FAR away from @redhat & @fedora . If #AI is not optional, every person I know using fedora (a lot) will be leaving fedora for another distro. We left windoze for this same reason!
