While many linux distros are agnostic on LLM generated code; unsure they ought to be dictating the dev tools contributors use; or even developing policies on how to incorporate it into their projects responsibly.

Gentoo and ElementaryOS have banned LLM code from their project code entirely. (Though they can do nothing about upstream projects they consume.)

NetBSD has instituted a policy barring any LLM generated code from the entirety of its base system.

AND FreeBSD's draft policy appears to be similar.

I am just finishing up my latest Linux tutorial video. I spent the entire day working on it.

I am getting better at editing. My biggest goal of this video is to remove the "ums" and silent pauses. I am eternally greatful for Kdenlive. The more I learn to use it, the more I enjoy it. It is very accessible. I have a lot more respect for professional video editors. You can spend many hours getting it perfect.

One thing I am trying to remember as I continue this journey is from Hank Green, who popularized the 80% rule. Basically, perfect should not be the enemy of good. It might not be perfect by an "ai's" standards, but it is 100% human made and that is what counts. With that said, I learn something every time I make a video and I believe they are getting better.

Just finished a look into the brand new @elementary OS 8.1!

Is the move to Wayland by default (Secure Session) ready for prime time? Yes, yes it is. I walk through the installer, test out the new workspace switcher in the dock, and check out the new monitor and other apps.

1️⃣ Open Terminal and run:

2️⃣ Paste this at the end:

Just bought #elementaryOS to give it a try. Not sure if it will become my daily driver but I do love and want to support the effort put into the delivery of a polished UI design, something where most other distributions fall a bit short.

Trying out ElementaryOS and the keyboard hurts. I also miss the menu bar. But I’ve already been busy using evremap to bring some comfort back to my hands. I started out with the left option/alt key to let me type my special characters (I manually select my curly quotes…among others) and switching to using the right key just feels more contorted, but found myself going all out since I’m using a VM.

Needed to install git. 😅 Maybe I’d be better off with a distro having more configuration out of the box, but I did appreciate having some control for keyboard commands (as a long term Mac user with a lot of text nav experience, some behavior was confusing (I’m doing all kinds of fancy things when I’m just trying to get around a paragraph. 😆

I’ve invested time (and money 😌) into this experiment, so I guess I’ll keep going.

It’s funny. With years of web server management, I’m much more at home in the terminal. Is this why there’s diehard command line folks? 😅

@danirabbit …I never succeeded installing it on my retired MacBook Pro (T2), however, and I searched my way to https://t2linux.org plus Pantheon, but I’d rather use #elementaryOS.

So here’s a question, if I may: is it possible to (somewhat easily) install 8.1 on this machine, or what would you recommend me do to? Do you know of any sources that can help me through the process?

I have decided my next video will be about @elementary

I have enjoyed using it for the past week since learning they refuse to allow any AI code. I have since learned about their founder and that the team behind Elementary OS is very positive to the LGBTQIA+ community and very anti-fascist.

I think I will make two videos, at a minimum. First, I will show how how easy it is to install. Then show what it is like to use it. Perhaps I could install some applications, go through the unique GUI applications they have created for newer users, and maybe even experiment with installing another desktop environment.

If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!

Okay, so elementary OS 8.1 is installed on my laptop and I'm gonna try and see if I can use the web browser the web browser that comes with elementary, which is Epiphany, aka GNOME Web, as my main. I have a feeling it's gonna be rather complicated but I want to give it a real shot.

If @elementary or anyone else has any piece of advice to give, I'd love to hear it. :abunhdhappy:
