Oh dear, I just found #ValaLanguage which closely mimics #csharp syntax but with minimal/no dependencies and compiles to C.

This might be my new #programming language, esp since C# isn't widely used on #Linux systems.

I think this means I have to learn about C though. #Unity3D is quickly becoming a thing of my past, one way or another.

Started with https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/installer/

Steps 1&2 took 90% of my time:

Led me to google pixel firmware docs (lots of 404 links)
https://developers.google.com/android/images#sargo
I used the "flash-all.bat" from cmd after bootloader unlocking, to downgrade to android 9

for "unlocking bootloader". Also the stuff before under "Prerequisites" is needed - especially the google USB driver on host PC

@resingm I have not had much time to gauge performance, its only been like a few hours.

YouTube is draining my already worn battery pretty quick (~1-2h), but it seems to be web-based. Might have more luck with a google play version.

There was a post I came across in 2020 that said there was a bug with battery drain under wifi use. Dunno if that got fixed.

I do intend to make this my daily driver - if not this then another OS.

@resingm I haven't yet figured out/had time to access Google PlayStore Apps, though I'm pretty sure you can do that, just not out of the box.
The two apps not native are YouTube and Mastodon, from OpenStore

Some of the core parts of the OS UI I am not fond of, like how many more taps it takes to access my phone flashlight, wifi settings, etc on the top of the screen. Google Pixel3a's UI was really nice with its swipe button menu there

"Ubuntu Touch" via @ubports seems like it might be the best next option for my device.

Seems like I cant escape the #Linux command line these days - now I'm gonna have it in my pocket.
Tech trial by fire, until you no longer notice the fire and you just live in it as second nature. (I was a life long windows user until I was forced off #Windows10 recently)

There was #DivestOS made for devices that were no longer "in support" but apparently that project got canceled at the start of the year.

My brain is just going crazy that the #USGov is gonna come after me by subpoenaing my data from google, even though I have long since turned all privacy-sharing settings off on my phone.

These older devices may not be the most powerful, but they still can be useful, especially for those without access to better phones.

Looking into protecting myself via flashing #graphene_os on my #Pixel3a - which iirc I paid $500 for and still use daily for everything

My phone is now apparently only worth $12, and will continue to spy on me because its "out of support" - even for GrapheneOS @GrapheneOS

I realize the technical security reasons for this, but like, I still use my Pixel3a for gaming and other high intensity activities

There does not seem to be any options;
