I keep forgetting how rewarding it is to finish a core feature of something and then making a small bit of UI or command that shows the state of it.

I’m being forced to add another department’s ID column to a table of data, some of which they send us. To be clear, we have an agreed-upon way of uniquely referring to these rows that all other departments are fine with. That way we don’t have to share internal IDs.
But no - this department is Special. They don’t want to have to do a trivial bit of SQL. It has to be their ID when we contact them about data issues. …so now we have another char(10) for several million rows where it’s not necessary.
I shouldn’t be surprised. This is the same department where I had to explain escaping special chars in the JSON they send us. So hooray they’re building that by hand instead of using a library…. 🙄
