Did you see this? It's an artist's conception of how gravity from the tiny moon Daphnis creates ripples in Saturn's rings - created by Kevin Gill of NASA.

This image was pretty popular here, and elsewhere on the web - but people often don't come out and say from the start that it's not a photo. The actual photos are less beautiful but... hey, they're real! And the ripples look different in the photos. Let's take a look.

Saturn's moon Daphnis in the Keeler gap in the A ring, as artistically depicted by Kevin Gill of NASA here:

The moon, sitting in the gap, creates lots of ripples in the inner part of the ring and a few in the outer part. Saturn can be seen below.

@djlink as much as I agree, the answer is money, as always. Making a battle royale multiplayer game is a gamble. It's unlikely, but if you score big, it will make more money than 20 Raymans or Prince of Persias could.

A game I worked on released a couple of hours ago:

Commandos: Origins
store.steampowered.com/app/147

I was part of a group of developers from #stillaliveStudios that joined the project for about 6 months last year.

My contributions were not player-facing though. I spent most of my time on the project updating it from #UnrealEngine 5.0 to 5.4 and working on console certification.

Am I the only one who gets confused by the fact that the first thing you see on #Godot's "Script" screen is a bunch of tabs for Scenes? Which may or may not have a script associated with them...

You can be on the Player scene tab, but looking at the enemy.gd script, and vice versa.

Screenshot of Godot showing the Script screen with both the Background scene tab active and the global.gd script active.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of working on Fossil Fanatic -a cozy archeology game created in 48 hours for the PULS game jam sirlich.itch.io/fossil-fanatic

I participated in the #pulsgamejam this weekend and created the small game "Feldschmiede" in 48 hours. You play a smith and have to repair the broken equipment of warriors.

skosnowich.itch.io/feldschmied

Was my first time seriously working with GDScript instead of C# in Godot, because web builds were required. I still prefer to use C#, but learned that GDScript definitely is a good alternative for game jams.

I am in the situation that I need to talk to a #WebAPI that I am not familiar with (PlayFab). The documentation could be better, so there is a lot of stuff that I need to find out by trial-and-error.

Some weeks ago I bought an issue of the c't magazine - the only one I bought in years - that by chance had an article about a tool for such a situation: #Bruno (usebruno.com/).

After playing around a bit with it: Full recommendation.

@Wortex17 so, from what I read, the results are currently a mix of Qwants own crawled index and Google results. Sometimes that shows as the first page is full of almost useless SEO optimized content. I personally still found it more useful than DDG. I just hope they can move away from Google results soon.

@Wortex17 I switched to Qwant. Not sure if this fits all your requirements, but it's EU based and while not there yet, it works together with Ecosia to build an EU based search index. So far I'm happy with it.

@soulsource ha, yes that's my fault, should have checked that hashtag before 😅
But it doesn't change the fact that I appreciate the good taste in videogames!

@soulsource what?! I did not know I follow such an illustrious person! I played all of them except the first and the last. I probably have a combined 1000 hours in The Settlers 2, TDD and KSP combined 😄

This is a motherfucking website.
And it's fucking perfect.
Seriously, what the fuck else do you want?

You probably build websites and think your shit is special. You think your 13 megabyte parallax-ative home page is going to get you some fucking Awwward banner you can glue to the top corner of your site. You think your 40-pound jQuery file and 83 polyfills give IE7 a boner because it finally has box-shadow. Wrong, motherfucker. Let me describe your perfect-ass website:

    Shit's lightweight and loads fast
Fits on all your shitty screens
Looks the same in all your shitty browsers
The motherfucker's accessible to every asshole that visits your site
Shit's legible and gets your fucking point across (if you had one instead of just 5mb pics of hipsters drinking coffee)

Well guess what, motherfucker:

You. Are. Over-designing. Look at this shit. It's a motherfucking website. Why the fuck do you need to animate a fucking trendy-ass banner flag when I hover over that useless piece of shit? You spent hours on it and added 80 kilobytes to your fucking site, and some motherfucker jabbing at it on their iPad with fat sausage fingers will never see that shit. Not to mention blind people will never see that shit, but they don't see any of your shitty shit.

@protowlf from my understanding, materials will be computed into shaders during the build. Using material instances will reduce the number of shaders and therefore memory usage is reduced and performance improved.
It's also just more convenient to adjust in the editor.

@krajzeg oh, I meant Slipways and Reus with that, sorry for the confusion.

However, I just tried to run Solitomb for a quick test. There's a tool simply called NonSteamLaunchers, which allows easy usage of, obviously, third party launchers, including the itch.io app. Used that to install the HTML version of the game and it would be perfectly playable, except for one issue: with every click the on-screen keyboard opens and blocks input. Not sure why that happens.

Since I have your attention with Solitomb...

I also made Slipways, and it's currently on a 50% sale on Steam and Itch! 🚀

If you're into strategy, space, 4X or indeed *good games*, now is the best time to see how a #pico8 conversion can go!

It's now also available in a Steam bundle with Reus 2 - another chill, thinky game about building stuff on planets! 🪐

Itch.io purchases come with a Steam key 🤝
