I installed Pi-Hole, a DNS sinkhole that blocks all sorts of ads and trackers from showing up on devices on your home network. I'm simultaneously stunned and not surprised at all to look at the logs of the first 24 hours. In one day, it's blocked over 14,000 calls to ad servers and trackers. A full 20% of the internet traffic on my home network would have been ads, if they hadn't been blocked.

@jsolly probably, although that is already the case with alternative clients that do support markdown. Support by the official client and website would stimulate other clients too. That said, I don't necessarily want to say I know better than mastodon during my first days around here :-) maybe there are reasons like you said..
