My daughter is a teacher. This was from her 5th or 6th year of teaching 4th graders, rural school, mixed populations all colors all wealth groups.

Had a couple of kids talking badly about themselves today and if there is one thing I will not stand for it’s that.
I stopped the lesson and we all talked together about the way we speak to others and ourselves. I repeated what I had head (without naming names) and then asked the kids if they would say that to their friend or to me. Loud chorus if “no!!!”

So I said, “okay, so if you wouldn’t say it to a friend or to me, why say it to yourself?”
