I had some unlucky timing in trying to migrate from #Adobe to #Affinity. They shut the store down pending a major announcement at the end of October, right after I started my trial. Well, a bit of relief: They re-enabled any trials that were started after September 20th, and bumped them to a full 30 days, so that will get me past the big news, whatever that is. Now I can keep working on my migration in the mean time.

Would you trust a company that closes its entire (free / Europe hosted!) support forum three weeks before a “major innovation” in order to “move” to Discord as its support platform, and then fails to respond to 25 pages and a total of 625 comments of criticism from users (genuine criticism, not just grumbling and aggregated within a bit more than a week )with a single word, and closes the forum anyway?

Support-Forum schließt um auf Discord als Support-Plattform „umzuziehen“ und auf 25 Seiten und insgesamt 625 Kommentaren Kritik seitens der Nutzenden (wirklich Kritik, kein Geätze!) innerhalb von nur etwas über einer Woche nicht mit einer einzigen Silbe reagiert und das Forum trotzdem schließt?

😞 Das dürfte es für #Affinity (#AffinityPhoto, #AffinityDesigner und #AffinityPublisher) gewesen sein? Apps nicht mehr in den App-Stores erhältlich, ebenfalls nicht über die offizielle Website. Dazu Werbemail: „Die kreative Freiheit kommt. Erleben Sie es zuerst. 30. Oktober.“
Zudem wird das Suppoert-Forum geschlossen, weil auf fckng Discord umgeswitcht wird.

Sorry, bei dem Mist bin ich raus.
War leider absehbar, seit #Canva Serif aufgekauft hat. Ich erwarte Abozwang & AI-Dreck am 30. Oktober.

Ich habe heute herausgefunden, dass man mit #Scribus interaktive Elemente in PDFs erstellen kann. Das ist das einzige, dass ich an #AffinityPublisher vermisse.
Aber mit der Zwischenlösung bin ich zufrieden.

Voy a darle otra oportunidad a #scribus, a ver si tiene ya todo lo que necesito para maquetar el nuevo libro.

Los cuatro o cinco últimos los he montado con #affinityPublisher y, oye, muy bien. Un software bastante comprensible, potente y de precio razonable.

Pero me jode tener que usar el macbook también para eso.

Y ni putas ganas de ponerme a echar andar Affinity sobre wine.

Got to do a really cool thing today.

So, the QR code Tool in #AffinityPublisher supports Data Merge, but only as Text. Which meant I had to reverse-engineer the vCARD format and pass it on as Text to the QR Code Tool.

Parsing in #MicrosoftExcel took a while. Had lots of fun doing it.

A little solo journaling TTRPG I am working on for a jam with a generous deadline: You get to play a dragon! A big one!

If anybody knows how to finally get rid of that damn path, let me know.

The tough part will be, that this is the digital version, and I aim to create the final not only in trad media but as an infinity card. Which will be super cool, but may cost me some nerve and sleep.

I'm working on a new book project and decided to use my Affinity Publisher software. In the past I've used Adobe InDesign but refuse to pay a monthly subscription for my Mac. I've used Affinity for small things, but so far not a book. It's working great! The book has nine chapters and looks like the final page count will be around 310. It's a nonfiction book about a caving expedition in the 1950s, I love all the old photos. #Nonfiction #Books #AffinityPublisher

Oh, btw I got #AffinityDesigner, #AffinityPhoto and #AffinityPublisher running on Fedora and they are working fine. But I didn't do anything serious with them yet. If they run fine in the long run, I will definitely switch to a Linux machine.

What's some (hacky) way to get some semi-scripted output for #AffinityPublisher? Its Merge capabilities seem rather early 90s, so not even simple IF conditions.

So if I were to design a #ttrpg spellbook, where there's an icon or color code indicating the magical tradition, I have to manually format 100+ sections?

I might need to take a closer look at either Typst, or my vows against Adobe…
