Between 2019 and 2021, California lost more than 1,100 licensed childcare facilities and nearly 19,000 licensed spaces—more spaces than the number of children in Mendocino or 21 other California counties.

In 2021, child care spaces were unavailable for nearly a quarter of California children ages 0 to 12 with working parents.
