Alnitak, Zèta Orionis (Zeta Orionis) is een drievoudig stersysteem met een gecombineerde visuele helderheid van magnitude 1,77. Het stersysteem bevindt zich op een afstand van ongeveer 1260 lichtjaar van de Aarde in de richting van het sterrenbeeld Orion.

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The blue supergiant star #Alnitak is 1250 light years away and is actually a triple star system. It serves as the easternmost star in Orion's Belt. The #Flame Nebula on the left and the #Horsehead Nebula on the right are emission nebulae energized by Alnitak. The area rises this time of year after 2am at my location. This image is only 10 five-minute exposures captured on a partly cloudy morning that caused me to throw away 25 additional images. #StillLearning

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #Horsehead Nebula aka #IC434 is a dark nebula near #Alnitak the easternmost star in Orion's Belt. The red hydrogen of the nebula is though to be excited by Sigma Orionis, the bright star in the upper right. The nebula doesn't rise until 2am at my location right now and I had to throw away many exposures due to clouds so this image is only 17 five-minute exposures captured in the wee hours this morning. #StillLearning
