AltspaceVR, a social VR platform founded in 2013 and acquired by Microsoft in 2017, has announced it will be closing permanently.

I've just learned that Microsoft has fired the entire MRTK team and it is also going to shutdown AltspaceVR soon. Very sad news, I had a great experience using MRTK in a couple of Unity-based VR projects and was eager to see the latest updates. Hopefully the team will be able to find better opportunities elsewhere 😢

@sultmhoor That's sad, I had some fun times on it too and thought it was a pretty good take on #socialvr. Microsoft saved #altspacevr from closing down back when they bought it so now I guess it was just delaying the inevitable.

For those who will miss AltspaceVR... What exactly will you miss? I'm not being dismissive, it's just in the real world we can say - I loved that place that's where I meet met friend, or that's where I bought that jacket, or we used to meet there every Thursday and chat about x. This was on the #AltspaceVR platform, which Microsoft announced today would be shutting down in March. A huge shame, as we've used it extensively at @futuremeetings (#TFOM) for events, and it's hard to beat for easy-access, professional meets.
