I had a Microsoft Teams call with my boss. I run Teams in Brave on my Linux workstation. My sound set-up is two Creative Pebble Pro speakers, with the left speaker having 3.5 mm jacks for a headset and microphone. For whatever reason, he could not hear me through my mic (a small MOVO brand mic with a 3.5 mm jack that I purchased on Amazon). I was unsure what the issue was. Then it occurred to me that it could be a permission issue. Sure enough, Brave was set to deny microphone access to Teams. I changed that toggle to allow and then it worked. I am now a conference call genius.

Teams Support for Emojis in Chat and Channels Section Names

Teams users can use emojis to create or rename chat section names. By incorporating emojis into section names, users create “visual anchors” to help navigate through Teams chats and channels. Sprinkling emojis around section names doesn’t really make me navigate any smarter, but it’s a feature that Slack has, so Teams can’t be left behind in the pretty interface stakes.

Teams Stamps External Users with Trust Indicators

Attackers might attempt to use social engineering to trick Teams users in compromise. Trusted indicators help users understand the status of external users with difficult visual markers. The idea is that users will see the marker and realize that they should be less trusting in their communications. Sounds good. Threat Actors Leverage SEO Poisoning and Malicious Ads to Distribute Backdoored Microsoft Teams Installers

A new campaign is distributing the Oyster (Broomstick) backdoor through trojanized Microsoft Teams installers. Threat actors are using SEO poisoning and malvertising to trick users into downloading fake installers from spoofed websites. The malicious installers deploy a persistent backdoor that enables remote access, gathers system information, and supports additional payload delivery while evading detection. This tactic mirrors earlier fake PuTTY campaigns, showing a trend of abusing trusted software for initial access. The backdoor communicates with attacker-controlled C2 domains and uses DLL sideloading via rundll32.exe for stealthy execution. Organizations are advised to download software only from verified sources and avoid relying on search engine advertisements.
