PSA! #Ōtautahi come to the South Spreydon Roving Market 14:00 to 16:00 today!

Its local #spreydon people with stalls and the deal is the goods must be either made by the stall holder (no drop shipping, no buy-sell), or stalls can be households selling 2nd hand items they no longer need so people can #recycling or #repurpose goods 😀

So head along to check out the stalls, the market organisers are trying to keep stalls as close to one area as possible. Households have kindly opted into sharing their berm, and so you can find me at:

"#Onthisday in 1903, Olive Ann Beech (née Mellor) was born in Kansas. She began her aviation career as a bookkeeper and secretary at Travel Air Manufacturing Company in 1925. She soon moved up in the company to become the personal secretary of Walter Beech, one of the co-founders of Travel Air Manufacturing Company. They married in 1930 and when that company was sold, Walter and Olive Ann established their own company, Beechcraft in 1932. When Walter became ill in 1940, she took control of the company, and when he died in 1950, she became company president, becoming the first woman to head a major aircraft corporation. She led the company through WWII, the space race into the 1980s. In 1980, the Raytheon Company acquired Beechcraft and Olive Ann was elected to the Board of Directors. N8149S, Beech 2000 A Starship in the static display park at Farnborough Air Show, 10th September 1994.
This is one of my fave planes, but I've only ever seen 1 out in the wild, away from airshows, and I saw that twice, 14 days apart, at Manchester, and then at Geneva, back in 1993!

Close-up of the twin tails of a twin engined BizProp parked on black tarmac facing to the right. The plane is mostly white, with a series of light and dark blue stripes running along the body and over the engines, which are mounted on the rear of the wings, facing backwards. The black registration "N8149S" is painted on the sides of the engine cowlings. As well as the twin tails on the ends of the wings, there is a small ventral tail under the rear fuselage - whether that is for additional stability, or to stop the propellor blades hitting the ground on take off or landing is unknown, at least to me. (It's probably a bit of both!) The tails of several other planes can be seen in the background on the left, and the feet of people in the crowd can be seen under this plane. Gorgeous blue sky with scattered fluffs of cloud fill the rest of the frame.

This path among beech trees creates an unexpected frame for art. Those exposed roots are a sculpture you can walk on — the roots of a fallen beech tree, cast in bronze and reintegrated into the path through the wood.
