Poster titled Choosing Earth Foundation Models: From research grade to community maintained. 0) Why Earth Foundation Models?

Earth Foundation Models offer a way to get a headstart
on building models for analyzing Earth features. While
the initial self-supervised learning pre-training phase
is expensive, it can be done once by a few players, and
then be adapted for multiple downstream applications.

To maximize the use of these Foundation Models,
we argue that it is not sufficient to just architect
models with fancy technical features. More attention
needs to be given to empower community participation,
and ensure that long-term maintainability is prioritized,
so that Foundation Models can be relied upon as a tool
for tackling complex environmental challenges that lie ahead.

I was about to press InDesign/Scribus option for that, but I think it makes a difference for some people, so it went as "other".

Once I did an online html version "clickable" by qr, with some panel graphics turned to animation (I wanted to try quarto/RStudio). Some people liked it, but I'm afraid in general it was opposite to the #betterposter ^^"

As of 2024, how do you preferably create a conference poster?

I’ve used PowerPoint before, not gonna lie. Open to suggestions, even if it means learning new stuff.

Bonus question: did anyone try the „#betterposter“ design and could share real life experience? How did people interact?

I am clearly not a fan of the #BetterPoster approach where you basically have a big text box in the middle.

Abstract
This paper presents a job recommendation algorithm designed and validated in the context of the French Public Employment Service. The challenges, owing to the confidential data policy, are related with the extreme sparsity of the interaction matrix and the mandatory scalability of the algorithm, aimed to deliver recommendations to millions of job seekers in quasi real-time, considering hundreds of thousands of job ads. The experimental validation of the approach shows similar or better performances than the state of the art in terms of recall, with a gain in inference time of 2 orders of magnitude. The study includes some fairness analysis of the recommendation algorithm. The gender-related gap is shown to be statistically similar in the true data and in the counter-factual data built from the recommendations.
