@OrionKidder Yesterday, I told a room full of Free & Open Source Software advocates in a certain government that their work represented a critical and huge step backward. 🙂
They got it. Public servants are generally doing their work because they want to help their neighbors, and that's the core of the #FreeSoftware ethos — getting back to that core human nature of community.

The #BlueHats 🧢 initiative started in France in 2018, but it was always intended to be a global movement, bringing together civil servants willing to promote #FreeSoftware #OpenSource in, for and by public administrations.
Here is the BlueHats manifesto:
1. Governments should actively contribute to Free Software.
2. Digitisation of public services should prioritise Free Software.
3. Civil servants should be free to use Free Software.

@janvlug I too look forward to all such similar non-US gov't bodies gaining trust in #mastodon, strongly favoring it over US platforms like X, Bluesky, etc.
I'm a #Canadian, and want to see more Canadian gov't agencies spreading their wings on Mastodon. Or other such #OpenSource, federated services, after *thoroughly testing it for the suitability* to their needs: eg. #XMPP, #DeltaChat, and #Matrix.
I myself will probably install my own Mastodon server some day, however when I look at all the possible servers today (ruby-based Mastodon, Misskey, etc), I'm not too happy with the *packaging* of the software. Where are the #Debian packages for all these servers? I'm hoping that eventually #gotosocial will do more for their software packaging - that one seems the most appealing. I have a need that the maintenance must be made easier and reliable for the sysadmins/devops administering it at the server level, *with easy security updates*.
