"The original #Jewish #BookWeek took root in #Boston thanks to Fanny Goldstein, the first female #Judaica #librarian—and the first woman to direct a #library branch in #Massachusetts (the Boston Public Library’s West End branch).

Now, there’s a new #kids’ picture #book about this #literary pioneer: “Fanny’s Big Idea: How #JewishBookWeek Was Born” comes out on Nov. 4 from Penguin Young #Readers. It’s getting plenty of positive advance buzz: “A timeless and timely tribute to the enduring power of literature and #libraries to build bridges,” says Kirkus Reviews."

I hate how Book Week is about costuming as characters who are not from actual books.

Look at this loser dressed up as the son of William Tell. A Swiss folk story is not a published piece of literature!

Far out… kids.

A shout-out to all the other middle aged #BookWeek dads trying to get their overlocker threaded, slightly tipsy, to crack out a costume by morning!

I'm off to a good start, having spliced the power cable the dog had chewed through...

Oh. Someone's given my girl a further option for #BookWeek costume - one of the crayons from a book about crayons that go on adventures.
She's chosen a pink one.
So now we have to make a small girl a pink crayon costume. And try really hard to make her not look like a penis.

#BookWeek next week. Am going to be in control of the situation so have asked the girl which of two book characters she would like to go as.

We already have costumes for the two.

It'll be maybe the 4th outing for one of them, so #value.

Selfcare. It’s Bookweek in The Netherlands. For grownups. I love Paris and the edition of Charlotte Dematons is lovely. Also the extra search options (yellow balloon, cat etc makes you read it twice). And I found a new edition of Tonke Dragt stories. So, no free book (you get one for free when you buy an adult book during this bookweek) for me, as it were all children’s books 🤣. Anyway: came for books, not the free gift.
Second picture: the face I made during ceramics class is finished.

Boekenweek!

#BookWeek What a brilliant idea😊👏👏

I have been able to access free libraries in UK and Australia, both school and public, since I was at kindy. Librarians are patient, so knowledgeable and kind. Libraries are essential and need all the support we can give.📚📖📚
My kids have done the Book Week walk of shame many times. This year will be different

Today's find at the Book Week fair in Budapest: catalog of Moldavian Csángó legend motifs. Including historical and belief legends. Gonna be very useful for storytelling research 😊

#BookWeek #folklore #folktales #Hungarian #legends

Two volumes next to each other. One is open, revealing a page of the motif index with notes and sources. The other is closed, it was a colorful red and orange cover. Title reads (in Hungarian) Moldavian Csángó lehend catalogue, by Magyar Zoltán.

If you're near #Stromness get along to @fionaorkneynews #BookWeek book launch exhibition at Northlight gallery.

With lovely straw dollies by Sue Knowles for sale, raising funds for ORSAS.

The #exhibition includes some #pencil #illustration by me, historic photographs, and other information about this industry which many working women in #Orkney depended upon until the #industrialrevolution killed it off.

Exhibition ends on St. Andrew's #FairSaturday

A lot of Matildas (not the Roald Dahl character) today. #bookweek

I’m excluding my daughter’s rather prosaic princess costume (Galadriel, notionally) but I’d like to show off my son’s book week costume — a Nazgûl from Lord of the Rings (which I’ve been reading to them at bedtime for the last 250 years).

A pair of $7 gardening gloves, a $10 tablecloth, a black stocking, and a sword from the two dollar shop. Plus some fairly brief ingenuity at the sewing machine by my marvellous partner. #BookWeek

This , don’t stress about the costume and don’t worry about what the other mums or dads are sewing or buying.

Costumes are fun but what matters is to let your kid read what they enjoy.
