In 1998, Honduras opened their new Choluteca Bridge over the Choluteca River. Later that same year, Hurricane Mitch wiped out the roads on either side of the bridge, and redirected the river from below the bridge to alongside it.
It became known as The Bridge to Nowhere until finally reconnected to roads again in 2003.
