This was an interesting read. A lot of it could be applied to other places as well!
[PDF] #HistoricScotland - Short Guide: #ClimateChangeAdaptation for Traditional Buildings
"Some traditional buildings may become less able to cope with changing weather patterns caused by #ClimateChange. This Short Guide describes the key aspects of the external envelope of a traditional building that provide protection against the elements, and considers how these can be improved or adapted to increase a building’s resilience to #ExtremeWeather events. It also considers the internal environment within older buildings, and how this can be managed to cope with changing environmental conditions."

…
At times much may result from the broadcasting of a good idea. In a casual conversation in a tram recently a well-known #Wellington gentleman, in speaking of the city and its general appearance, made the suggestion that during the war most of the business people in the city allowed their premises to get very shabby for want of fresh paint and general “doing up,” with the result that Wellington is a decidedly shabby place now. Nothing much has been done since the war, and the people in question have apparently grown used to the rather grubby appearance of the place. Therefore, it was suggested that a “clean-up campaign” of the outsides of the city buildings might be instituted…, for a clean and cheerful town, with bright and well-kept premises, is an inspiration to all—and at present there is a complete lack of such inspiration.

Emergency #lighting test (which is best carried out after darkness) - all the circuit breakers for the lighting circuit are opened, to check newly installed maintained LED lights and the "running man" signs above fire exit doors illuminate correctly and there is enough light in the building (1,83 lux at the darkest areas - requirements are 1,00 lux)

Now is the time of year to check and clear your gutters. Failure to keep rainwater discharging properly leads to damp walls, vegetation growth and damage externally and internally. Damp walls also conduct heat out of the building resulting in higher fuel bills.

I'm an #artist, but #buildingmaintenance is what pays my debts.
Last week I had the opportunity to #learn, #network, #eatwell and get my #certification (and win a raffle prize too) at one of my vendors' annual #Expo. It was a fantastic use of a day.
