#RammedEarth

Cultures of Uncare. For real. Look at this. Scott McAuley from Anthropocene Architecture School giving a great talk at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales cat.org.uk : 💪 in a #RAMMEDEARTH auditorium, 🤙 inside a #HEMPCRETE building.

Talk on a wooden stage, presentation in the back reading Cultures of Uncare, in the back is a giant round rammed earth wall

Terrio rammed earth prefabrication in France seems to be way ahead of the game at this point. This is a renovation site where the #rammedearth blocks are retrofitted between the grey embodied carbon climate and biodiversity crisis materials. This is modernization. terrio.fr/site-blanche...

prefabricated rammed earth blovks get lifted in place between an existing concrete sturcture as a modernisation.

Of course we did different clay layers as well. #rammedearth #regenerativeconstruction Workshops: biwena.de

Ramned earth with different colors.

That's the new representative aesthetic. Seems like concrete is over, at least apart from big name anthropocene architects. #rammedearth, #timber head quarter Windkraft Simonsfeld Ernstbrunn, Juri Troy Architects www.juritroy.com/de/projekte/... Fotos: Patrick Johannsen

I've made dozens of these in workshops over the years. I wonder if there are more #rammedearth walls like that. It's an eyecatcher for sure and super usefull for those low winter sun solar gains. www.instagram.com/reel/DHJqVFy...

How can the materials we choose and how we develop them define and influence care and maintenance in architecture?

By exploring the process and potential of rammed earth as a spatial element and its relation to the human body we wanted to investigate how the action of care can be continuously applied in the context of the domestic interior.

We initiated the process by unfolding the different domains of care. We investigated care in terms of the tectonic, practical and phenomenological aspect through the act of building to the finished object with an intent of continuous care and maintenance throughout the objects lifetime.

This is a visual montage of the different steps and explorations throughout the process of creating two spatial sections of a interior wall. And developing a maintenance scheme as an act of radical care.

earth:work was a collaborative project developed together with Emilie Schleppegrel, Hedda Klar and Constantin Scholz.

The educational observatory in Remiseparken. A simple typology developed through a vernacular approach.

The project have had a continuous point of departure in soil both at a material, social and environmental level. I've explored the human-soil relations through the act of building and soil as a mediator between nature-culture.

The interior is closed of to create a space for immersion and learning whereas the exterior and the sorrounding environment create intimate exploration zones which are less programmatic and more likely to be inhabited and appropriated by its users.

Rendered in Blender, post-edit in Photoshop.

Initial spatial fragments developed for the observatory in Remiseparken.

The project was part of my Master's at The Royal Danish Academy. I developed a spatial program with a point of departure in soil as a catalyst for exploring and learning in and within nature.

The spatial fragments consists of 1:20 models in rammed earth and wood to test certain spatial situations and the tectonic language when working with soil as a structural material.

Soil testing today! Evaluating the soil I dug for the #poolPond for potential use for rammed earth floor and/or fence. The narrow mouth mason jar is soil from the smaller hole. The wide mouth mason (🎸 ) is from the large pile.

Two mason jars, a wide jar and a narrow jar stand on a wood table. They are filled with water and soil and look like a uniform reddish brown color.A narrow mouth mason jar stands full of water mixed with soil. It is a solid brown color. Behind the jar of walks a fuzzy cat. You can only see his back legs and fuzzy body. Two jars stand on top of a small platform. One is narrow one is wide. Behind them is the yard with a hole on both sides.

Using local #soil along with rammed earth products reduces #SandExploitation. And just as importantly, this material is not affected by #wildfires to the same extent as current wooden structures. #RetroTech

So much YES. Would love to connect with fellow enthusiasts and professionals working in the field, and engage more actively, bringing in my own expertise of working in high end interiors and architecture. If that's you, please reach out, boost, connect.

We OBVIOUSLY can't 'keep on keeping on' and design our built environment like we don't know how fundamentally flawed our design principles and construction methods are.

Let's embrace new aesthetics and look forward, not back. Bauhaus was relevant at the time, it's history now. Let's move on. Let's question every single choice in the design process and make better decisions. Educate our clients. Throw those outdated concepts overboard of what is aesthetically pleasant, what is deemed high-end.

Nobody will enjoy marbled lobbies, airconditioned greenhouse towers and concrete buildings on a dead planet. The future is now. Let's design and build it together!

#introduction Hello! I am a Zone 3 gardener who loves #permaculture , planting trees, and trying to grow food forests. I love #BuildingScience and learning how to fix or improve my house. Lately I have been getting into passive house design, insulation, and #resilience - reducing our house energy use, conserving water with rain barrels, etc.

I'm a fan of #Homesteading but also #GoodUrbanism - constructing buildings with local materials and traditional techniques so they can be cheaper, last longer, be more resilient, and better for the planet. For example #RammedEarth walls and thatch roofs. I write book reviews and longer notes on brownfoxff.substack.com/
