A tiling of ducks. They come in two versions: one white with yellow beaks and feet, and the other with green heads, two shades of brown body and orange beaks and feet. Two ducks are detached from the tiling near bottom left and right corners.

Geometric turtles based on the pentagonal cairo tiling. Nine cairo pentagons make up a turtle: four in the center form the shell (with darker colour), surrounded by five forming the head and the four legs, with same hue but lighter. There are four turtles in each of the colours red, blue, orange and green.

The irregular pentagons of a Cairo tiling may be more visible here, changing angles and eventually degenerating to 4-sided figures.

One of the pictures from the previous post showing white lines wrapped around a square grid that approximates a morphing Cairo tiling.  The number of wraps changes from 9 at the center to 0 at the corners giving an appearance hinting at concentric diamonds.  In this picture, the irregular pentagons of a Cairo tiling have been drawn over part of the picture with black outlines and colour fading from the center of the picture to the outside.

Edit: oops I forgot the alt text on the second picture. It is just an approximation of a part of a Cairo tiling like the first picture, but the dodecagons in each irregular pentagon are more densely packed and are coloured in shades of grey. The effect is more curvy.

A roughly diamond shaped figure on an angled square shaded from dark in the center to light and dark at the edges.

The main figure resembles a lacy Cairo tiling, but the irregular pentagons of the tiling are made up of black dodecagons at the edges and some rings of black dodecagons inside, with white dodecagons between those groupings and also in the center..A close-up of the second tiling showing the dodecagons more clearly and how they share edges.

You might find this picture somewhat interesting, I call it “Cairo Transitions”, and it is from about 4 years ago.

It shows a square grid being transformed into a #CairoTiling by emphasizing different edges in a 3D “bent #pentagon” tiling.

The underlying pattern was created based on the fact that #cubes fit nicely into #dodecahedrons (as mentioned by @johncarlosbaez in this recent post mathstodon.xyz/@johncarlosbaez).

There is a chance that you might have seen it at JMM2020.

A greyscale tiling made up of trapezoids and triangles which together make up irregular pentagons.  Thought of another way, the tiling could be made up of bent pentagons in three dimensions.

Various edges are highlighted to show a transition from a square grid in the upper left to a Cairo Tiling in the lower right.
