It's cold, I'm exhausted, and I woke up feeling like absolute crap this morning. But I was still able to get my kid to school without a car because of my #EBike*.

@nwchapman I think you are falling into the classic trap of assuming that the #BanCars movement means literally 0 cars anywhere ever. This point has been debated many times over, but just wanted to call that out.

Maybe it's more technically accurate to call it #CarLite if you like, but to me it's the same thing. My alternative hashtag hasn't taken off for some reason:

#CarsOnlyWhereNecessaryAndNecessaryMeansNecessaryWithAVeryLimitedDefinitionOfNecessary

As a #carFree household, fuel prices affect us only indirectly, in the way their increase lift other prices in the economy. We are happy to almost never pay for petrol at the pump. 🚲

On one hand, I do feel some sympathy for people struggling to pay the rising cost of petrol. It is tough nowadays.

On the other, maybe this will finally motivate some people to reduce their #carDependency? Maybe those of us living #carLite or car free can finally stop being the tiniest minority?

We have one car, but try to be #carlite and minimize its use.
For grocery shopping, half the time we walk to the store near us. A couple times a month though we need other items and drive to a store 5 km away, which is near two others. While my wife shops at the first, I'll #longboard to the others for some extra items. Fast, fun and saves a little driving.
#TraderJoe can be crowded, but #skating past a line of cars hunting for parking, then rolling right up to the front door is always glorious.

Today was my first time out on my bike in almost 2 weeks 😱

First stop: the post office in #Saanichton village — how cute is this little post office?

Next stop: over to the #BrentwoodBay Village to reactivate my library card. It’s nice to live close to a library again!
