Westdel on Queen's Place in the Hyndland area of Glasgow. Designed by George Washington Browne, it was built in 1890 for Robert MacLehose, who ran the Glasgow University Press and whose initials are inscirbed on its date plaque. At one time, Westdel had a bedroom designed by Charles Rennie MacKintosh, but this is now in the University's collections.

The rather wonderful Glasgow Style railings around the 1908 former Holmlea Public School on the southside of Glasgow. This is an old photo, but I thought it was worth reposting as a follow-up to my other recent posts featuring Holmlea Public School.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Ruchill Parish Church Halls on Shakespeare Street in Glasgow is set to be sold by the Church of Scotland sometime in the next year. Built in 1899, it's probably the last Mackintosh building still owned by the original owner and still being used for its original purpose. It still retains a lot of its original features inside as well.

Some Houses in a street, one tall, thin and brighter than the others in the middle. In front of it is a sketchpad with a watercolor drawing of the scene, the thin building with some details, the others blurred.

The Willow Tea Rooms on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. It was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald in 1903 for Catherine Cranston. While Mackintosh designed a number of tea room interiors for Cranston, this is the only one where he also designed the exterior. It was based on an existing sandstone tenement built in the mid-1860s.

Redclyffe and Torrisdale. Constructed in 1890, this pair of semi-detached houses on Balgrayhill Road in Glasgow are thought to have been designed by Charles Rennie MacKintosh for his cousin James Hamilton

Gordon Gibb's presentation about the debacle of mismanagement around the two fires at #GlasgowSchoolOfArt is sad and compelling, available to stream online for the next few weeks.

The building was constructed in 1903 as photographic studio for T. and R. Annan and Sons and was designed by John Keppie. However, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was a partner in the same architectural firm as Keppie, may have designed the facade.

The Delphic Sibyl (left) and the Prophet Isaiah (right) on the Royal Highland Fusiliers museum on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Derived from Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, there was originally meant to be a third statue of the Libyan Sibyl as well.

The Glasgow Style mixes elements of such traditional Scottish architecture with European Art Nouveau influences to give a distictive and uniquely Glaswegian style. In particular, there are a lot of similarities between such buildings and Mackintosh's masterpiece that is Hill House in Helensburgh.
