Long COVID can involve the brain, heart, lungs, nervous system, and more. Some people experience one or two symptoms. Others experience many, across multiple systems. Both presentations fall within the same diagnosis.

When a condition looks different from person to person, it is easier to dismiss. That dismissal can delay care, strain relationships, and worsen outcomes.
And in all settings, this disbelief can be damaging to long-haulers’ mental health and emotional well-being. It hurts to not be believed, especially when you’re already struggling.

Anyone else find it bizarre Carney still hasn't appointed a new federal Chief Public Health Officer? Dr. Tam stepped down in June - clearly illustrates public health is low on the list of priorities

Also, Bonnie Henry has been basically AWOL in the midst of the worst flu season in decades

@augieray AJ Leonardi was a prophet. I’m one of many people who heeded his warnings about immune system damage from #covid19 and benefited from that. He was slandered for years but the critics have gone quiet now.

I don’t even hear the “immunity debt” nonsense anymore, do you?

P.S. Thanks for your well-written and informative postings, Augie. You’re one of the good guys.

I said back in November that this was going to be a very bad year for influenza, due to Subclade K, low vax rates, and a vaccine that was a weak match for this year's flu. I also often point out that degrades immune systems, and repeated infections will only encourage other viral illness, such as the flu. And today...

The percent of outpatient visits for respiratory illnesses are at the highest rate on record, surpassing any levels seen since data is available.

Mass General Brigham researchers looked at data on 4,584 participants across 52 U.S. sites from the federally funded RECOVER-Pediatrics study
Results identified social risk factors associated with greater odds of prolonged SARS-CoV-2 symptoms
New research led by Mass General Brigham investigators suggests that long COVID is more prevalent in school-aged children and adolescents who experience economic instability and adverse social conditions. The multi-center, observational study found that the risk of long COVID was significantly higher in households that faced food insecurity and challenges such as low social support and high levels of discrimination. Results are published in JAMA Pediatrics.

“Long COVID in children is especially concerning because of the potential for long-term health effects that could persist into adulthood,” said co-first author Tanayott Thaweethai, PhD, of Massachusetts General Hospital Biostatistics. "Public health interventions that target social risk factors—such as food insecurity and lack of social support—

I’ve been drinking Spicy Chai tea for a while.
I can JUST about taste it
Covid nuked my sense of smell and therefore taste.
Earlier I brewed some good quality coffee.

I cannot smell the aroma
I cannot taste the coffee

It's just brown water.
