@adisonverlice in fact, #PocketCrypto, #LambdaCrypt & #Cryptofon are all able to be used standalone and enhance each other's capabilities...

@adisonverlice I was looking into that - I just barely had time and resources to make it work.

  • Certainly tech has progressed way better since I started looking into it before 2013...

Granted the #Cryptofon project predates either and would basically do #AFSK in #CB radio, so not like #AX25 or similar protocols with a managed packet radio.

@FirewallDragons needless to, say I'm dissatisfied with existing options re: #Firmware, espechally for.my prokects like #PocketCrypto [1], #Cryptofon [2] and #LambdaCrypt [3] that I started @OS1337 [4] as #OpenADK, #YoctoProject amd #LinuxFromScratch are either too #cringe, #bloated or #complex IMHO and I wantes something simple and auditable...

@soatok nodds in agreement

Same reason why my own projects (#Cryptofon, #PocketCrypto & #LambdaCrypt) are stuck in concept / development hell for over a decade...

  • I'd rather do things diligently or not at all...

@SweetAIBelle that's why I started @OS1337 : I looked at #Floppynux by @w84death and while it works with #BusyBox it doesn't do much beyond cat and vi and doesn't even have like drivers to store anything.

OFC #OS1337 isn't much better as of now but I do share the motivation that made @landley start #toybox:

A simple, clean, lean and adaptible, #smol #Linux distro that can be the solid foundation for anything.
youtu.be/MkJkyMuBm3g&t=1408
Whilst #mkroot is nice, I think there is some room for improvement and building an actual #distro.

  • Also he has made excellent documentation including a live demonstration on how to basically DIY a minimalist linux from scratch with #musl & toybox: youtu.be/Sk9TatW9ino

I feel that "Just chug in a #RaspberryPi with the lite Version of #RaspberryPiOS seems quite overkill (it's a 350MiB (!!!) image) for most projects and espechally when it comes to #security-related stuff like #Cryptofon, #PocketCrypto and #LambdaCrypt.

  • I think that besides "Don't DIY encryption! There are excellent implementations ready to grab and go!" the #KISS-Principle is key, cuz I'm a shit coder and I want to avoid having to fiddle around and instead make it easy to fix stuff just by updating versions from upstream.

@YoSoyFreeman A #SIM and #GSM baseband is to be considered #hostile at all times, and even if people were to tunnel everything via @torproject / #Tor that won't avoid the #tracking and "#LawfulInterception" aspect.

Ideally we'd have stuff like the #PocketCrypto1 & #Cryptofon 2 ready to #DIY, but sadly I've to still work on getting the necessary #Firmware done based upon @OS1337 / #OS1337 3.

Granted, the best thing one can do is to bounce public WiFis with anonymized MAC addresses...

That works okay with Tor Bridges, but won't work in like #NorthKorea where you only have a national intranet and the only options you have to get any #Internet access is through smuggled SIMs at the Chinese and Russian Border...

@landley @DavittoKun *nodds in agreement*

The same reasons are why I want OS/1337 to be a better minimalist OS:
Because if I ever want the #PocketCrypto and/or #Cryptofon to succeed, I've to convince people that wear a tinfoil-lined hazmat suit and have 25X security spechalists on speeddial that make Schneier and Snowden look like Skiddies to trust that whole thing.

And like NORAD it basically boils down to "personell hours are expensive" and "the less code there is to audit the easier it is to do so"...

Having a clean slate even if it's just a piece of sheetmetal on top of Euro-Pallets is sufficient as table.
I don't need fancy handcarved on a spindle feet!

@republica @chaosupdates effektiv sind damit Projekte wie [#PocketCrypto]( github.com/KBtechnologies/Pock ) & [#Cryptofon]( github.com/KBtechnologies/Cryp ] dort genauso illegal wie #GnuPG / #OpenPGP-#verschlüsselt|e #eMails und/oder #XMPP-#OMEMO - verschlüsselte #Chats, wenn keine #Kleptographisch|e #Govware - #Backdoor integriert ist.

Ich werde daher dort garnicht erst einreisen können!
