Looks like #cryptpad dumps derelict accounts, so support was pretty much a one-liner. So I set up a new account to explore, and that worked. Gonna have to figure out how it can be used in general use before I can make my mind up about it. #infotech #infosec

Spotted the recent stories about #cryptpad and tried to login again. Since 2019, I've been unable to login to the service and it's been a running gag since then. I'm sure the service works, the UN moved to it, so obviously I'm the outlier here. So I sent an email to their support line, asking for help. We'll see if I'll ever be able to login or if this is going to turn into a white whale. I'm not really that driven to hunt it down, it's never worked for me, so c'est la vie.

Ok, I checked out CryptPad once again (had done so months ago) and it's still ridiculously unusable for me.

I write on my phone. This is a mock up old Word style document layout, making the actual document I see my writing in the size of a stamp, the letters accordingly tiny. I did not find any settings letting me change this at all.

Also - and that's why I'm still in Google Docs although other services do much better than the CryptPad UI - no spell check. As much as I hate the new "suggest different words" function I DO need spell check because I suck at spelling and also constantly type shit like tge instead of the.

Yesterday afternoon I've given @cryptpad a try.
Even though I don't really have a use for it, I wanted to test the installation on #freebsd.

It took only few minutes to create the jail, checkout the code, make the install and tune the configuration file.
Using #caddy as a proxy was really straightforward thanks to config examples, and they even provide an rc script for freebsd.

It's been a really long time since I've seen such a smooth and well documented install process for a non-packaged software. And I'm so happy they only provide docker as an option, not as the main (or only) supported installation method.

The senior #sysadmin in me is absolutely thrilled by the work of the #cryptpad team.
As a user I think the application is well designed and achieves the very difficult balance between secure design and usability.

People often mention CryptPad.fr as an alternative to Google Docs, but somehow the website fails to explain exactly what it is? Sure, it's a self-hostable office suite — but it's running OnlyOffice under the hood so it's not the office suite itself. Is it E2E encryption on top of OnlyOffice? Are there components that are not OnlyOffice?

If it was just a paid service I would've assumed it was just OnlyOffice as a service.

sudah setengah jam lebih ane cari cara search and replace di #onlyoffice tapi ga sukses.

maksudnya di #cryptpad tuh proses search and replace untuk entire cell sangat lama, kadang 5 menit pun tidak selesai.

jadi ane coba batasi di range tertentu tapi ga nemu caranya. Setelah kulik dan fokus ketemu caranya tapi masih belum bisa.

di excel ane pakai notasi range seperti ini A1:B2 untuk menetukan 4 cell A1, A2, B1, B2 dan membatasi operasi di 4 cell itu saja. Namun di openoffice tidak bisa.

setelah berkeringat sebentar akhirnya ketemu. Ternyata OpenOffice pakai absolute notasi untuk range ini. Kudu kasih tanda $ untuk mengunci range, sehingga notasinya sebagai berikut $A$1:$B$2

agak aneh tapi masih masuk akal. Ilmu baru yang harus disyukuri.
