In Praise of Post Office Box 646
"Opening GPO Box 646 was like unwrapping gift every day. You never knew what you would find – a QSL Card from a remote Station, a letter from a fellow DXer in another Country, or a program schedule from a Station you had been trying to catch for months."
Sudipta Ghose, the Father of the Box
Since 2017, when the Club’s once hardcopy "Asian DX Review" went digital, things seem to have picked up a bit again for analog postal traffic.
The number of incoming postal mail had been at its lowest point around 2010, but "while the volume of mail never returned to its former glory, the postbox continued to serve as a symbol of the [Indian DX Club International] community’s resilience." – and as
"… a call to action for radio enthusiasts and DXers to keep the legacy alive, to send a letter or a postcard to IDXCI at GPO Box 646, Kolkata 700001, India."
Can’t help but like the idea. Let’s flood the box with respectful attention.
