Apparently this morning's project is wget’ing a bunch of retired web pages from an old WNYC show (Studio 360), pulling out the links to mp3s, and downloading them. All because the podcast feed only goes back three years instead of covering all 20+ years.
Why? Because there are interesting conversations.
Looks like The Fishko Files are after that.
If you care about game preservation this non-profit organization that works on preserving games in Japan really needs money.

I was curious if the closure of The Bay meant we would lose archives about the company history.
Turns out there is an Hudson’s Bay Company Archives, which is a partnership between the Government of Manitoba and the Hudson’s Bay Company History Foundation (HBCHF). The foundation is funded separately from the actual The Bay company and apparently not about to close.
They published a memo to confirm that the archives are safe:

Microsoft it seems found an efficient way to recycle hdds by taking the rare earth minerals out of decommissioned drives and reusing them and diverting quite a bit of e-waste. (Estimates are in the article) I wonder how this will effect the storage market. Not to mention the impact it may have on preservation efforts.

This article is related to digital preservation in the sense that it helps you take a hard look at your digital life habits and the amount of storage used versus what's actually needed. Decluttering your digital life can help improve mental health.

Surprising just how *small* a lot of these are.
Anyone here know where I can download the twitter data that some data hoarder was giving away or something? It used some weird flaw and I read it is over 300 GB.
Data hoarding is capturing me, help!
I have a mini Intel Atom-powered home server in my house.
However, I’ve overlooked two things:
How do I back up data and keep it safe (from both security and quality perspectives)?
I’m still a newbie at GnuPG Privacy Guard. How do I secure the backup of my private keys?

Anyone know if nvme drives might work for a nas and if they're reliable for this?
I want something more compact.
Someone's having a midlife crisis with their data hoarding 😂. They think serving 5 terabytes is a heroic feat worthy of a YouTube documentary—meanwhile, Google sneezes that much data every second 🤦♂️. Maybe they should try serving some #common #sense instead! 🍿

I've got 20 HDDs connected to 5 backplanes. The backplanes each have a SFF-8087 connector.
What type of controller do I want/need?
(And how many)
Bonus question:
Any suggestions for the right motherboard? (Up to E-ATX)
It's got tags that can filter stuff in/out, so in this example if you want to see Jerma event streams but maybe you *really* don't like Ster, you can filter out videos that I've tagged as having him in them.
