#Deno

2025-06-20

I have implemented a YAML based configuration, as I am used to from Spring.
I find this far more structured and clearer than .env files or similar.
The configuration also works as in Spring. You can therefore create separate files for each environment.

YAML based configuration for logging and gatekeeper

I've started playing around with #Deno #Fresh.
Coming from a Spring background, I was wondering if it was possible to implement a real web application and not just a few simple (dynamic) pages.
First step: ported my gatekeeper...

#typescript

Extract from the log file. Malicious requests at the beginning, then the gatekeeper blocks...

We're migrating Hackers' Pub to a pretty unconventional tech stack, and I'm honestly excited about it!

Thanks to my friend @xiniha, we're diving into #Solid, #SolidStart, #Pothos, #GraphQL, and #Relay. In a world dominated by Next.js and React, this feels refreshingly different. And yes, we're sticking with #Deno instead of Node.js too.

Some might call it contrarian, but I like to think of it as exploring what's possible beyond the mainstream. Sometimes the road less traveled leads to interesting places.

I have been pretty happy using ✨ for my projects lately. It's replaced , NPM, ESLint, Prettier and Jest for me, because it has all of those features by itself. The package manager in particular is so much nicer than NPM!

There are a couple minor issues when using it with , but the team has been hard at work ironing those out, and it keeps getting better with each release. I highly recommend you to give Deno a shot!

Today it crossed my mind for the first time that, after all, I don't need #typescript at all.
Some months ago, after some months spent with #rust I got to a compromise idea that I should use #rust for "serious" tasks, and #javascript for quick modelling. The idea evolved quickly into it's same form, but with #typescript in place of JS.
Two months later I'm failing to get #deno run my software because the network layer won't work if I import some .ts file of mine; if only I knew which one.

Since I finally got down to the #deno code I wanted, with all the modules and their cloned repos and patches set right, it turned out that the networking is out.
Out? Yes, first I figured out that the Pg DB Client won't connect.
I boiled it down to
await Deno.connect
that never finishes. Execution simply stops there, forever, without any notification of any kind.
Same thing with Deno.resolveDNS.
I'm debugging this problem for days already, still with no success.
Not a recommendable experience 😒

Occasionally I think the #Fedify project might need to leave #Deno. I'm even thinking that while adding Cloudflare Workers support… 🤔

Anyone here have experience using @vitest with @deno_land, or setting up a unit test suite that works on #Deno, #Node.js, and #Bun?
