Nice to get featured with a bunch of other mastering colleagues in a great article by Ian Stewart on "the most common issues in audio mastering" for the audio processing & restoration plugin & editor maker Izotope. #EventTech mystery? This pile of nerdy stuff does work, yet it is unclear why.

Setup:

SQ-5 mixer → AR2412 Stagebox DSnake Port
AR2412 Expander port → AR48
AR2412 Monitor port → AHM16 with SLink card

#AllenHeath say in their forum that this is not guaranteed to work, since it never was intended to work this way – hooking up an #SLlink receiver talking #DSnake #meMonitor on that monitor port.

In particular, there must be one single #ClockMaster in this setup, which is the #AllenHeathSQ5. But whatever clock setting I use for the #ahm16, it works. It shouldn't work at least on its internal clock. But it does. No clicks, no pops – or do I just miss them?

DSnake seems to be a simple protocol, it's basically just inputs 21-40 on the AHM16 what the SQ-5 sends as monitor signal, while 1-20 is the regular outputs.

I have no idea, if this does works as a happy accident, or if it is somewhat unreliable on the long run.

I am keen to hear from anyone here who uses dictation or transcribing software/services that do a good job of transcribing sound files (WAV or MP3) into text documents.

I am heading into a contract that will require me to do 30+ interviews and these will need transcribing for theming and needs analysis purposes in a fairly short time frame.

I use a MacBook and a Zoom digital recorder with MicroSD cards for storage and transfer.

Any and all advice, experiences or recommendations would be appreciated.
