*EINLADUNG*

Liebe Interessierte,

I am abled and learned so much about the past, present, and future of our shared world through Alice Wong's edited . The rest of the world has so much to learn from as climate catastrophe looms around the corner, and manmade famine and war continues to disable our neighbors across the globe. I take solace in knowing networks exist, great precedents radical lives exist, despite the ableist constraints that hinder many to be "disabled".

Year of the Tiger: An Activist's Life

This groundbreaking memoir offers a glimpse into an activist's journey to finding and cultivating community and the continued fight for disability justice, from the founder and director of the Disability Visibility Project.

In Chinese culture, the tiger is deeply revered for its confidence, passion, ambition, and ferocity. That same fighting spirit resides in Alice Wong.
Drawing on a collection of original essays, previously published work, conversations, graphics, photos, commissioned art by disabled and Asian American artists, and more, Alice uses her unique talent to share an impressionistic scrapbook of her life as an Asian American disabled activist, community organizer, media maker, and dreamer. From her love of food and pop culture to her unwavering commitment to dismantling systemic ableism, Alice shares her thoughts on creativity, access, power, care, the pandemic, mortality, and the future. As a self-described disabled oracle, Alice traces her origins, tells her story, and creates a space for disabled people to be in conversation with one another and the world. Filled with incisive wit, joy, and rage, Wong’s Year of the Tiger will galvanize readers with big cat energy.

A colleague is reading and ARC of Against Techoableism & has great things to say about it!

But I'm most excited abt Alice Wong's new anthology (Feb 2024): Disability Intimacy. Contribs include Marieke Nijkamp, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, s.e. smith, and Ingrid Tischer, as well as poetry by Ashna Ali, John Lee Clark, Cyrée Jarelle Johnson, and Ellen Samuels, etc. 📚

Alice Wong, @SFDirewolf on Twitter and founder/director of the Disability Visibility Project, needs help. Systems that should work for all of us are broken, hence the need. Can you give? I did.
I've learned so much from her writing and others she lifts up. gofund.me/44fcbd8e #disability #DisabilityJustice #Medicaid #help #giving #DisabilityVisibility #DisVisibility #CripJustice

Alice Wong is now a columnist for Teen Vogue! 😃

From her post on twitter:

"My first piece is about the Medicaid unwinding process starting 4/1 when states will resume annual redetermination processes for all enrollees which could result in millions losing their coverage"

reading this on a train, wearing an N100 mask, chest aching whenever i breathe in, while two people in this car, both without a mask, are hacking up a lung and not even covering their mouth, is just an incredibly wild experience #disability #DisabilityVisibility #LongCOVID
