Wenn #Win10 abgestellt werden soll, überlege ich, ob ich einen #linuxumstieg für meine Eltern (beide 80) wagen soll.
Die beiden sind eigentlich relativ fit, aber inzwischen alt und damit schwindet das Können und die Flexibilität. Für sie ist Office wichtig (und ja, sie sind an Office Ribbons gewöhnt) und zudem benötigen sie zwei spezielle Windowsprogramme.
Der #distrochooser empfiehlt drei Distros, außerdem habe ich mal von #wubuntu bzw. #winux gelesen.

With the points you mention, I would tend to recommend Ubuntu (or Kubuntu if you want more eye-candy)
- it runs pretty well on the desktop
- it is widely supported and user-friendly
- it has a huge repository of available software, including development tools
- you can use your experience with apt
